Why We Need This Article / Argument for Notability[edit]

Hundreds of thousands of home gardeners, U-pick berry farm owners, and commercial growers across the world grow strawberry plants, and a large portion of them choose a variety that specifically suits their needs. Government and university based agriculture departments in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., and other countries engineer improved, new varieties to release to the public. There are many websites that list a handful of varieties (often ones developed by the owners of the site) and sites that list varieties they are currently selling, but there is no definitive list of commercially available varieties. What better place to have that list than Wikipedia?

This Wiki page is indeed in its infancy. I plan to upload a germane photo as well as expand the list to include June-bearing strawberry varieties that were developed and are popular in the U.K. and the rest of Europe. I am a longtime strawberry grower, but I do not consider myself an expert. If anyone who shares my enthusiasm or has extended knowledge about strawberry varieties could help out with this page, that would be fantastic. Thanks! Timbo81 (talk) 02:10, 18 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

  • My favorite varieties here in Southern California -- the Chandler and Sequoia varieties -- are not included in the list. I belive they were developed by UC Riverside. Thank you, J Herron May 19, 2009 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.152.188.252 (talk) 19:48, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yeah, I recognize those varieties. So I'll do some more strawberry searching... just uploaded a photo with a Sequoia label :) I'm still searching for a reliable webpage with info on Sequoia, Chandler, etc. Timbo81 (talk) 21:08, 19 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I will attempt to find sources. I grow Sequoia and was saddened to not see it on the list. Crazyhistory (talk) 22:35, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is this considered a cultivar? I cant vouch for its notability, i was just cleaning up the stub, and i found THIS page.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 03:48, 18 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Historical cultivar entries needed also[edit]

I would like to see a vast expansion of this table, with the addition of historical cultivars which may be no longer available (and noting if they are no longer available). E.g. in the 1960s in New Jersey, my family grew: Catskill, Fairfax, Robinson, and Jersey Belle. Bhami (talk) 14:37, 10 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Anybody know anything about the 'Clark's Seedling', sometimes commercially known to grocers as the 'Hood River'? Apparently at one time it was one of the best-known in the country, being shipped out of the Hood River valley in Oregon all over the country. --Orange Mike | Talk 15:23, 21 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Images and commonscat[edit]

A am thinking of adding an image column to the table. However, I see that the commons category and the table has few items in common. Also, the commons category could use a subcat for cultivars. Right now, the cultivar categories are mixed in here and there. Thoughts? Cooperation? Help?
