Untitled[edit]

I noticed that my edit of Ole Nydahl's name from this list was added back on. I had hoped that my logic was clear that Ole Nydahl was convicted BEFORE his period as a religious leader and as the article clearly states this is a list of persons convicted AFTER their time as a religious leader. I will be clearer in the future. THe object was not to hide the information (which is clearly stated in Ole Nydahl's own book), but rather to adhere to the guidelines that are set out for this list. If we want to change the entire ground rules for the list then we can do that too but I think we will have to add a lot of names :)

THis was my previous post: —Preceding unsigned comment added by Melsonc (talkcontribs) 22:30, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ole Nydahl needs to be taken off ASAP.

The page specifically states that this is a list of religious leaders convicted "during or after their period as a religious leader...". Lama Ole was convicted before he founded the Diamond Way organization and before he began his meditation training with the 16th Karmapa. His name should not be on this list.

Ole Nydahl was imprisoned in Copenhagen in the beginning of 1969 until April of that same year (Entering the Diamond Way pg 35-41) and he was not formally sent by the 16th Karmapa, Rangjung Rigpei Dorje, to teach in Europe until 1972 (Entering the Diamond Way pg 210).

In the Wikipedia policy on "Biographies of Living Persons" it clearly states: "We must get the article right.[1] Be very firm about the use of high quality references. Unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material about living persons — whether the material is negative, positive, or just questionable — should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion, from Wikipedia articles, talk pages, user pages, and project space.[2]"

If this is going to be a useful source of information for people then we need to be sure the information is accurate before it is posted.

  • I noticed that two people listed here were not religious leaders at all but administrators at a Church. To get a perspective on this let us say this web page was about convicted baseball players. Would we allow people to list the convictions of spouses that happened to have committed a crime? Kilowattradio (talk) 15:51, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
    • Why is almost everyone on the list in a cult or splinter group? Don't mainstream religious leaders get convicted too? 168.137.100.28 (talk) 18:06, 8 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

to the point, this list should only include individuals of some cultural or social significance. It does the Wiki community little good to have a list like this bloated with every person who's worked in the field of religion with a dui, peeping, or shoplifting. There needs to be a bar. eg. the person continues to do religious work and is rising in prominence, or the individual or crime is of celebrity status nationally or sui generis in nature. For my money, a page like this contains an unavoidable bias against persons working in religious fields unless equal space is going to be given to pages featuring noteworthy authors, musicians, politicians, plumbers, and psychologists who've committed crimes. It just doesn't seem to be of "encyclopediatic" value. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.98.77.17 (talk) 16:46, 29 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not sure about this addition[edit]

I'm not sure about this addition of "A.K.A." which keeps getting repeatedly added by the same editor. (It's been removed by me and by another editor so far.) It's about an American bishop in the LDS Church. Being an LDS bishop is not exactly a high position in the church, and it's a temporary lay position. LDS bishops are pastors for about 100–400 people. Those who hold the position generally have non-religious employment and they volunteer some hours every week to the position. I don't think that the guy is even notable, given WP:CRIMINAL and WP:1E. He's certainly not notable for his religious position. Good Ol’factory (talk) 09:34, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
