I think the parties should be categorized by their ideology in such manner:

It would be a huge improvement of the article -- The Egyptian Liberal (talk) 06:16, 28 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Left, Center, and Right is not a good classification. It is better to classify them according to their Political (authoritarian/democratic), Social (liberal/moderate/conservative), and Economic (liberal/centrist/socialist) orientations. 90.181.66.134 (talk) 23:49, 22 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is Liberal perhaps a confusing term to use? It seems to have a different meaning in the USA than it does elsewhere. Since Wikipedia tends to be Amerocentric, it can be confusing on which definition to go by. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.6.0.32 (talk) 19:35, 28 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think there is much difference between US and other places in being liberal regarding social issues. But possibly we can change it to progressive. 195.113.30.252 (talk) 18:17, 1 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agree per The Egyptian Liberal. I also think, considering the current political climate, parties should be classified by whether they support or oppose Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. Charles Essie (talk) 01:28, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@174.6.0.32, 90.181.66.134, 195.113.30.252, and The Egyptian Liberal: What do you think? Charles Essie (talk) 17:43, 31 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There was a badly out of shape list on political afiliations over at the List of Egyptian presidents. I streamlined it but now move it over here for further use:

A good resource[edit]

Here is a good resource giving information on parties and alliances: http://www.aljazeera.com/indepth/spotlight/egypt/2011/11/2011111510295463645.html 90.181.66.134 (talk) 08:43, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Liberation party[edit]

The party known as Hizb al-Tahrir, or in English the Liberation Party, in Egypt is a Sufi-based party led by the head of the Rifai order. It has nothing to do with the international Hizb ut-Tahrir, although I believe the latter does also have a small presence in Egypt. ComhairleContaeThirnanOg (talk) 15:03, 2 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

monitoring for changes should be done as this article is a hot issue and subject to subversion.--ProfPolySci45 (talk) 03:16, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

"Social Orientation"[edit]

There's no indication in the article of what this very vague heading on the parties table means. It needs to be clarified or removed. How is it different from "economic orientation"? ComhairleContaeThirnanOg (talk) 00:44, 19 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A couple of new parties[edit]

These parties should be added to the list as more information becomes available. Strong Egypt Party http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContent/1/0/46761/Egypt//Expresidency-contender-AbulFotouh-to-launch-Strong.aspx Egyptians Party http://english.ahram.org.eg/NewsContentP/1/46664/Egypt/-New-Egyptians-Party-aims-to-thwart-Brotherhoods-r.aspx 69.225.239.166 (talk) 23:56, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Riddled with vandalism[edit]

Came across obvious vandalism (removal of political figures name and replacement with the name of some US middle school vandal) from February 2011 (!) left of this page. This says to me this needs a major cleanup be before it is reliable source for readers. ([1] [2]) God knows how much less obvious mess is still there.T L Miles (talk) 17:21, 13 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New alliances[edit]

There will be new alliances when Egypt's next parliamentary elections occur. http://thedailynewsegypt.com/2012/08/25/all-broken-up-new-coalitions-form-as-old-electoral-alliances-die-out/ I suppose we should wait until the elections actually happen to update the page. David O. Johnson (talk) 01:19, 16 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The Revolution Continues Alliance defunct[edit]

Some of the parties in it have joined other coalitions. http://thedailynewsegypt.com/2012/08/25/all-broken-up-new-coalitions-form-as-old-electoral-alliances-die-out/ Other parties disbanded, while others merged. http://english.ahram.org.eg/News/46988.aspx http://thedailynewsegypt.com/2012/08/25/all-broken-up-new-coalitions-form-as-old-electoral-alliances-die-out/

Should the Revolution Continues Alliance be removed from the page? David O. Johnson (talk) 06:19, 19 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It appears there are still three parties in the alliance. I'll leave it alone. David O. Johnson (talk) 05:01, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Egyptian National Alliance & Egyptian Patriotism Alliance appear to be the same[edit]

You can read here that Ghad al-Thawra Party chief Ayman Nour attended the Egyptian Patriotism Alliance meeting http://www.egyptindependent.com/news/new-liberal-coalition-plans-pressure-morsy and New Wafd Party leader El-Sayyid el-Badawi also attended Egyptian Patriotism Alliance meeting http://www.egyptindependent.com/news/new-liberal-coalition-plans-pressure-morsy

Both of these parties are merging together to form the Egyptian National Alliance. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egyptian_National_Alliance

It appears that they are the same.

I will go ahead and merge the info into one article. David O. Johnson (talk) 21:12, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

On second thought, I will leave it alone for now to let people comment. David O. Johnson (talk) 21:15, 28 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

More proof: Ahmed Shafiks' Egyptian Patriotic Movement is also translated as National Movement Party http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egyptian_Patriotic_Movement

I looked up the words "patriotic" and "national" on the Babelfish translation website, translating them from English to Arabic; in both instances the equivalent word came up as "الوطنية (Arabic)". This seems to be more proof that the two coalitions are in fact the same. 23:09, 28 September 2012 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by David O. Johnson (talkcontribs)

Logos[edit]

I tried adding logos for the political parties, which makes it easier for the viewers to follow the long list in the table, but another user is insisting to remove them. The user keeps referring to a page that talks about trying to eliminate excessive graphics for actors etc but says nothing about logos. Can anyone help with this? --Egypt June Revolution (talk) 21:40, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you actually take a few minutes to read over our policy on the usage of non-free media which logos often are. You will see that including the images in this list is forbidden. Werieth (talk) 21:54, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I'll remove the logo column in the wikicode eventually.David O. Johnson (talk) 04:58, 9 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It is done now.David O. Johnson (talk) 05:32, 9 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
