Act appearance question[edit]

Is this list intended to included all acts that appeared on TOTP or only those that actually performed in the studio (as opposed to on video etc)? MFlet1 11:47, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Issues for this article that need attention[edit]

As you can all see on the edit history, I have been slowly alphabetizing every single act in every single year in this article for the past few months, deleting repeated artists in each year too. This is because there was no apparent order for any of the acts when I started (and even when the page was created in 2006), so alphabetization seems to be the only organization solution for now. I have finally finished today.

However, I would like to know if there is any book or website that has a list of every single act that appeared on TOTP for every year it existed, and if there is any chronological listing of those acts. If none exists, then right now we're fine, but if there is such a website/book, we should all reach a consensus if all acts should be listed alphabetically or chronologically as to when they appeared on their first year of appearance.

Regardless of whether or not such a website/book exists, a verification process of each year is necessary. These lists aren't perfect, the main reason being that some acts may appear in the wrong year and that there still might be a few repeats here and there. I don't have time or much interest in verifying each artist in each year so I request some assistance in doing so.

Lastly, this article needs more patrolling. While alphabetization of each year will lower the number of unnecessary edits, many users will still ignore the line in the beginning of the article stating "artists only appear in the year of their first appearance". Again, I don't have time or much interest in patrolling this article constantly, so I would appreciate if some experienced Wiki users would become familiar with this page and add it to their watchlist. Such an article deserves to have several users patrolling it anyway.

Thank you all for your concerns, and please help if you can! A vision of it (talk) 00:42, 30 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

To be honest, I think the article is largely pointless. It's basically a list of everyone who's ever had a hit in the UK. A complete list would be too long anyway. I can't see why anyone would want to ever refer to this.--Tuzapicabit (talk) 17:21, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree that it's largely pointless. You have to imagine what a user can get from this. For example, if I have a memory of a particular artist who had a memorable performance and want to somehow go and find that episode, then what I really want to do is the exact date. Knowing that I can go to somewhere like youtube and look for that whole episode or search for the artist with that date. True, I can search for the artist and the year thanks to this page, but sometimes an artist would be on TOTP 20 times in the year. Unless we can have the listing of every episode (in date order) and who was on that episode, or a listing by artist (in name order) and list each appearance they made in date order, then there's no actual good use case for the article. It's unfortunate, somebody has put time and effort into it, but it's just not useable for much as it is.
