Cabinet-level versus cabinet[edit]

White House Chief of Staff is not a cabinet-level position.Mhenneberry 19:51, 23 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, while it's not a cabinet position, it is a cabinet-level position (just like Vice-President). I've renamed the article to make it more precise. Udzu 10:32, 17 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Rumsfeld?[edit]

I'm adding Don Rumsfeld to the list, since he was secretary of defense twice (Ford and Bush Jr administrations). I think this is covered by "multiple cabinet positions." Dkostic 23:27, 16 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

secretaries under multiple presidents[edit]

Is there a list somewhere of Cabinet Secretaries who have served more than one president of different parties, as Robert Gates is about to do? Thanks. Simon12 (talk) 05:55, 26 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

vice presidents[edit]

The Vice Presidency was NOT considered a "cabinet level" position until the F. Roosevelt administration. VPs did NOT attend cabinet meetings. Wilson let Thomas Marshall preside over a few while he was in Europe during 1918-19, and Harding invited Coolidge to attend, but Dawes refused to attend, starting a feud with President Coolidge, and while I'm not sure when Garner started attending, the first VP to be an "official" cabinet member was Alben Barkley. So I deleted all vice presidents prior to Coolidge.Ericl (talk) 16:49, 20 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
