Praveer Pratap Singh[edit]

Reference for Praveer Pratap Singh (April 28, 2014) describes him as a trekker who died at "3,800 metres between Namchhe and Dingboche". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 103.247.3.86 (talk) 13:38, 3 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Alexander Brown[edit]

Reference for Alexander Brown (January 4, 2016) is needed. I have found no indications of this person's death in any online articles. It is also highly suspect that an 18-year-old would be climbing in January, very much off-season. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jessrd (talkcontribs) 14:27, 22 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2015 EBC avalanche[edit]

A list with 15 names has just been put up on the site of the NMA. I advise you use this with discretion as not all info is 100% accurate and there are two known and confirmed names missing. I've been co-operating with them directly to smooth out these wrinkles and hope they have a corrected list up soon. Qwrk (talk) 07:37, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Here's the most correct and up to date list I compiled; http://altitudepakistan.blogspot.com.au/2015/04/spring-2015-list-of-everest-base-camp.html
I dunno, while I appreciate that the people who died at Base Camp should be remembered, many of them were not really "climbing" Everest, were they? —Joseph/N328KF (Talk) 14:06, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's accurate. People like Marisa Eve Girawong, for example, was a base-camp doctor. She was not "climbing" Everest nor would in the coming months. A lot of the other Sherpas killed were "kitchen staff" at the base-camp. Source. I don't know, maybe we should change the title of the article to 'List of people who died at Mount Everest'? MarcosPassos (talk) 14:21, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The list on ExWeb is essentially the same as on Raheel's site. With the statistics we've been faced with a new problem this year; "death by avalanche due to earthquake". Same like in 2013 when we had to fill in a new category for the victims of the massacre at Nanga Parbat. Whatever you want to do renaming this list, I do understand the predicament, so please do as you deem fit. Qwrk (talk) 17:19, 29 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Unidentified Hungarian climber was an Austrian member of a Hungarian climbing party[edit]

I've just watched the video on Youtube that is used as a source for one of the entries in the table saying that an "unidentified Hungarian climber" in May 1996 died on Everest. After checking some news sites it turns out that the person in question was an Austrian citizen climbing with the Hungarian climbing party mentioned in the video, his name was Reinhard Wlasich. Source I'll update the table. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.182.176.7 (talk) 18:51, 1 September 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Harsh Vardhan?[edit]

According to the Wikipedia article on the mountaineer, his full name was "Harsh Vardhan Bahuguna", and Chris Bonington's book "Everest: south-west face" refers to him simply as "Harsh Bahuguna". The article on the surname "Vardhan" does not list him as a notable person with the name (though it does list two politicians called "Harsh Vardhan"), whereas the article on the surname "Bahuguna" does list him as one. In view of all this, he should probably be referred to here either as "Harsh Vardhan Bahuguna" or "Harsh Bahuguna", but not simply as "Harsh Vardhan".213.127.210.95 (talk) 15:02, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reinhard Wlasich[edit]

Could it be that #134 Reinhard Wlasich and #143 Reinhard Wlasich are the same person? 93.229.202.97 (talk) 10:09, 5 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Matthew Jones[edit]

@Mqmpk: Did you read the source cited? It indicates that Matthew Jones "arrived at the lodge (in Lobuche), which is at 4200 metres, and then went on an 'acclimatising walk' to 4600 metres in preparation for the next leg of the trek." He then apparently "died about 4.30am of high-altitude sickness." There is no assertion in the source that he even set foot on Everest itself.

According to the Lobuche, Nepal article, "Lobuche (or Lobuje) is a small settlement near Mount Everest in the Khumbu region of Nepal."

Since Matthew Jones neither tried climbing nor died on Everest, what justification, then, is there in including him on a List of people who died climbing Mount Everest?

Peaceray (talk) 22:48, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

P.S. Everest Base Camp may refer to one of two camps, each above 5,000 metres. So, Mathew Jones did not go there on his acclimatizing walk. Peaceray (talk) 22:53, 10 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Peaceray following are the sources I went thru before posting it earlier... Anyways I have no issue if the name is removed from the listing. Just wanted to have a discuss first :)

The dailymail.co.uk, news.com.au, & 9news.com.au all seem to be derived from the Herald Sun article ("A Melbourne father-of-two and multinational tech company professional ..."). 9news.com.au indicates that he "died of apparent altitude sickness near the Mt Everest base camp" & au.news.yahoo.com indicates that he "experienced high altitude sickness close to Base Camp and died on Friday."
I think that there is disagreement about whether he ever trekked to the base camp. Regardless, all the articles indicate he did not intend to climb Everest, & on that basis he can be removed from the list.
Also, a note on the Daily Mail: WP:DAILYMAIL indicates that "the Daily Mail is no longer considered to be a reliable source and cannot be used to demonstrate notability."
Peaceray (talk) 00:05, 11 April 2017 (UTC)[reply]

This page is intended to document those who died with the intent to summit the mountain. I have removed Mr. Jones from the list as it is clear that he had no intent to summit the mountain. There is no documentation of a climbing permit being issued to Mr. Jones and no documented associated climbing logistics company, which makes it clear that he was in the region for trekking rather than climbing. To the individual who continue to add Mr. Jones back to this list, consider creating a page to document those who died while trekking in the Khumbu region of Nepal. Supadude888 (talk) 16:27, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki is also about discussing and not enforcing or taking abrupt actions. A civilized discussion always is better resolution :) Peace out!!

Mallory and Irvine death date[edit]

Should this not be 8-9 June 1924, rather than a definite date of 9 June, or a note added to say presumed date? While Irvine's article gives his date of death as 9th June, but Mallory's says 8-9 June and makes clear in the text either is possible. The available evidence, assuming Odell's sighting was accurate, would seem to make it certain that they could not have died before 8 June, and it is highly unlikely either could have lived past the 9th, but it seems there is reasonable doubt that 9 June can be considered as the certain date of death of both of them. I removed Lim Pisith on basis of these references: "They follow the death on Friday of Cambodian Pisith Lim, 29, who was at the start of a 17-day trek taking in Mount Everest's base camp when he died of suspected altitude sickness." [2]
"given that his name is not listed in The Himalayan Database, and there is no mention of a climbing permit or team, it seems likely that he was trekking to Base Camp" [3] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.13.27.145 (talk) 10:44, 30 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

How about adding an Occupation column? For example, it was reported that Christopher John Kulish was an attorney, Séamus (Shay) Lawless was an Assistent Professor in Artificial Intelligence (Intelligent Systems? Exposure?[edit]

What is the meaning of exposure as a cause of death? --Janra (talk) 14:15, 5 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

To quote the definition given on-wiki, "Exposure, in medicine, poor health or death due to lack of protection from extreme weather or dangerous substances, e.g., from hypothermia or sunburn." In this article it's meant to be a sort of catch-all, I believe; we may not know the exact specifics, but they were exposed to conditions (such as low oxygen, extreme cold, high altitude, and strong winds) that were ultimately fatal. Numerical order[edit]

As you probably know, #134 (which was apparently a duplication of #143) was deleted. Unfortunately, the number was also deleted which means that #134 is now missing, and all other numbers from #135 up are one out. I have also noticed that #249 - #256 inclusive, and #270 - #273 inclusive, are out of order for some reason. In other words, from #135 (which is really #134) up will need to be renumbered. As a footnote, do you know what's happened to the list of eight climbers (seven of whose bodies have been retrieved, I believe) who perished in an avalanche recently. I think it was a mainly British group which also included an Australian woman. Editrite! (talk) 08:49, 3 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I have now renumbered from #134 up to restore numerical order. Editrite! (talk) 02:42, 15 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Someone fix the table for Fatalities.[edit]

It's a giant mess of code. Hard as hell to scroll through on a cell phone. Could be a simple fix, could be a lot of work. Michael.aasand (talk) 06:20, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

This appears to be an issue with the numbering feature in the table itself and with the Wikipedia app. If you check the page just using your mobile web browser, NOT the Wikipedia app, you'll see that it displays just fine. I'd suggest contacting the app devs to see if they can fix it; it's not something in the article, and it's well beyond the capabilities of the average Wikipedian. NekoKatsun (nyaa) 15:26, 9 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Table not displayed correctly; still not fixed[edit]

In the (android) Wikipedia app the wikitable markup text is shown instead of the table itself. Browsers parse the markup correctly. This has been mentioned here before. Mill 1 (talk) 15:56, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Last time it was brought up I suggested contacting the app devs about it - unfortunately I don't think there's much we can do to fix it at the page level, since it's parsed correctly in browser and appears to be an app-only issue. I don't use the Wikipedia app myself, so I don't know if the previous person actually told the app devs, nor if they're working on a fix. NekoKatsun (nyaa) 17:36, 1 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
