adding city[edit]

Media in PA also has a ball drop. We should add it to the list (I dont know how) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.32.31.254 (talk) 05:07, 2 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Minnesota has had the world's largest fishing bobber drop at midnight at The Midway Saloon in Saint Paul, MN. Not sure how to edit this page but it's happened for the past 2 years:

OK folks, it's New Year's Eve, here are some guidelines[edit]

Before you decide to put an object here, Wikipedia does have some guidelines, namely reliable sourcing and notability. In order to consider it notable, please try to find independent news coverage of the event. If a self-published source is all you have, and it's a significant public event in a public square, consider: it may be OK if the organizers published it themselves and you, not being the organizer, post it. It is probably NOT OK if you publish it yourself. If you have a little online event that gets no attention, Wikipedia is not the place to promote it. I, or someone else, will likely remove it. Thank you for your time. J. Myrle Fuller (talk) 13:33, 31 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Sydney and Melbourne[edit]

Although Sydney and Melbourne's NYE are major events, especially Sydney New Year's Eve, nothing actually "drops" during them. The article doesn't even describe anything dropping at all and so I ask that maybe we should remove that section? AnimatedZebra (talk) 05:34, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Duly removed. I had them listed because at one point I think they did mention there being some sort of ball drop involved in those festivities, but apparently there either never was or is no longer.J. Myrle Fuller (talk) 17:02, 5 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Double Post[edit]

I must have double posted and so I have removed text and replaced with this apology. :) AnimatedZebra (talk) 05:39, 3 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Pensacola, Fl[edit]

I don't know if Pensacola would be considered a notable drop. However, it is an oft-reported event in the local broadcast news and in print and can be cited if added. Before including it I just wanted to know if Pensacola's Pelican Drop should be added; it's debatable as to whether it is a "major city", but it is considered so in the immediate geography.68.105.63.12 (talk) 23:40, 1 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Other Countries[edit]

I note that only USA cities are listed here, but many countries around the world also drop something, for instance, Madrid's ball drop in puerta del sol Cradam (talk) 12:25, 1 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Dubious drops[edit]

  • The Rochester blurb is almost certainly about the Genesee Brewing Company keg tree, though I can't seem to find any information about a ceremonial "drop" on New Years. Pharos (talk) 02:55, 7 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
