Definition of 'Monastic House'[edit]

In the Catholic world, there are monastic houses, the houses for members of more apostolic congregations and retreat houses for these apostolic congregations, in which the spirituality of the congregation or order has a more focussed expression.

I've gone with the more strict definition of 'monastic house' in the catholic space on this page. If we were to include all religious houses and retreat houses of all the congregations in Australia, the list would be substantially longer. In a short overview of the anglican list, there seems to be a more liberal interpretation of the phrase 'monastic house'. The 'Society of St Francis', or their equivalent Franciscans in the Catholic Church, would not have a space in the Catholic list, because they are a mendicant order - which means they don't take a monastic vow of stability because they seek to serve where there is a need, which often requires an ability to move location.

Perhaps this justifies removing the 'society of st francis' from the anglican list. Yet Anglicans have a different relationship to religious orders and perhaps this list is more a list of religious orders in anglicanism in Australia. It still has interest for me. But perhaps there needs to be a link to the page dedicated to anglican religious orders and leave this page for purely monastic congregations?

I think I'll do just that.
