I have changed the lake's name from Dood Nuur to Dood Tsagaan nuur, because this is the name used by the ministry for the environment, and (I guess) also by the locals. As I can remember (my Road Atlas is still in Mongolia) I've changed names according the Автозамын Атлас. At the Russian maps this lake is Dood (lower) and does not include Targan Lake. It is really the lowest in Darkhad depression. At new (2003 edition) 1:500 000 topo map of Mongolia it is Доод Цагаан нуур and Тарган нуур is separate. Dood Tsagaan Nuur sensu stricto is appr. 40 sq.km., Targan Nuur - appr.20 sq.km. So value in the table (64 sq.km.) includes both Dood Tsagaan and Targan (and a number of islets were not excluded, I guess). It is not so clear, but it has a sense to make a map of the lake water mirror with its parts naming. Bogomolov.PL (talk) 16:10, 1 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

My Abto Zamyn Atlas also has Dood Nuur, but the Hovsgol Aimgiin Atlas of 1988 (or so) has Dood Tsagaan Nuur. As has that Hovsgol aimgiin lavlah tol', where much of the info in article on the lake is from. One also could look this up in Walther Heissig' Mongolische Ortsnamen ... But maybe Dood nuur is just a part of Dood Tsagaan Nuur? This would make sense since we already have a part sometimes called Dund Nuur.
I would be a bit reluctant of making a map relying on rather unspecific sources. We can say that Targan nuur is the northwestern northeastern part, but anything else would seem rather uncorrobated. Of course if one of us could claim to actually have inquired with the locals about this... but I never went beyond being told that Tsagaanuur is right behind the next big hill (Baga Tag Uul on that Czech map). As official topographic map gives Dood Tsagaan Nuur it CAN be a valid name. Probles can be with the Soviet topo maps - Dood Tsagaan Nuur is present at these maps, but it is smaller one here, 4 km SE from Dood Nuur southern tip with the name of Dood Tsagaan Nuur (at Mongolian map Tsagaan Nuur).Bogomolov.PL (talk) 15:46, 2 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
