Alphabetically[edit]

Hi,

Should this list not be sorted alphabetically? The list of Delhi hospitals is a huge mess right now.

Linking[edit]

Hi,

Should the links be removed from the hospitals that do not have pages yet?

Clean up[edit]

I removed the phone numbers, website links and did some other formatting to try and clean up this article. I suggest keeping it simple with the name of the hospital its district and possibly some WP:NPOV information about its services. AIRcorn (talk) 07:25, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Merger proposal[edit]

I propose that List of hospitals in Chandigarh Capital Region be merged into here. As far as I can tell, there is no case of any "List of hospitals ..." article anywhere on Wikipedia for any region smaller than a "state" (like for the US, as in List of hospitals in Oregon). I checked a variety of major world cities and regions, and none had a similar list. As such, there is no reason for Chandigarh Capital Region to be an exception to the general rule, especially since it's not even an official region. Qwyrxian (talk) 04:26, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Support Seems like a good idea to me. Good work on the clean up too. I had a go a couple of months ago, but I get the feeling some consider this a place to advertise there hospital. AIRcorn (talk) 06:53, 20 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Merge is done. Qwyrxian (talk) 06:25, 10 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Red links, list format[edit]

So, this list is still ugly, even after the earlier clean-up work. A small number of articles are blue-linked, but about half of the rest are red-linked while the other half are unlinked. In general, redlinks should only exist if there is reason to believe that at some point in the future an article can and will be created about the subject. My opinion is that, on this article, probably only a tiny fraction of the currently redlinked articles will ever be bluelinked, simply because the majority of hospitals will not meet WP:GNG or WP:CORP--that is, they are not notable enough to have their own articles. Even those that are...who knows how long it will be. So, my feeling is that it would be appropriate to remove all of the links (not the entries, just the links themselves), so that every entry on this list is either unlinked or a blue link. Since this is such a huge task, I'm not going to do it without asking first though.

An alternative to removing all of the redlinks would actually be to make everything redlinked; this, for instance, is the way articles like List of hospitals in California and List of hospitals in Australia are formatted. Personally, I don't think those are formatted correctly, but I'm not going to try to run rampant over those articles since the consistency sure makes it look like it was intentional.

Once there's consensus (or resounding silence) here, and I go forward with whichever method is preferred, then I'll also try to clean up the actual entries (for example, making sure each city/region is linked only once in each list, and alphabetizing each list. Qwyrxian (talk) 07:09, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Consensus conschmensus. Nobody will care. :) :) :) Besides, there's only one sensible solution: remove all the red, and maybe alphasort the items.
I'll do N-Z, ok? I can use a macro and it will take two seconds.
I'm sure there will be some lovely surprises like Apollo Hospitals and Apollo Hospitals India. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:07, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I'll do Kerala on down. That's about halfsies. Let's just be bold and have at it. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:10, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
While we are at it how about standardising the addresses. I see no point in saying Nagpur for every hospital under Nagpur and some information like Waltair Main Road are a bit optimistic. Maybe just "hospital name, district" and leave it at that (wikilinking the first occurence of district) or even easier just the hospital name. You can assign me a task to make it go faster AIRcorn (talk) 08:28, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Good plan. I think I fixed all Kerala and down. Have a look here. I'm done now, so someone else can take over. :) Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:01, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

If I had to do it over, because of all the place names blue and red linked unnecessarily, I would go with this method:

 • Tag all blue links you want to keep with ` (or some other obscure character) just to the left of the[[.
 • Then run a macro that replaces them with something else: i.e. --> bananasplit, --> fudgesundae.
 • Global search and replace all and all with nothing.
 • Search and replace all bananasplit with , and all fudgesundae with .
 • Done.

The whole operation should take 10 minutes this way. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:10, 30 June 2011 (UTC) >[reply]

Done...for now anyway. AIRcorn (talk) 11:28, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Macros? Find and replace? What do you two think this is, the 21st century? Back in my day, we used to go through and change every single error by hand, uphill, in the snow, both way! You young whippersnappers and your fancy-schmancy macros....</sarcasm>
So, in seriousness, thank you both for taking care of what would have been, for me, a much more arduous task. No that it's clean, maintaining it will be much easier; this stays on my watchlist, so as mal-formatted entries show up, they'll be easy to identify.
What would be really cool is if we could figure out which of these are actually "hospitals" (as opposed to clinics, individual doctors, etc.). At least where I'm from we don't actually have "Eye hospitals", for instance, but, for all I know, they do in India. But without actual first hand knowledge (or some sort of authoritative list from a national accrediting agency), we'll just have to stick with what we have, I suppose. Qwyrxian (talk) 23:54, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Macros are easy, even for me. They save huge amounts of time. It's simply a mini tape recorder for keystrokes instead of sound. You can record and playback, for example: "search this" --> "go forward two spaces" --> "Highlight next word" --> "type bunny", etc. Nothing more than that. But very, very useful.
I will remove the remaining red, if that's okay.
As for verifying the items, there's no good way to do that, from what I can see. I think India has really caught on to using Wikipedia as a directory. Why not? It googles to #1 spot.
I've been switching formats in such articles from urls to refs, to de-directory the appearance. Is this best? Example: Bihar Brain Replacement Centre --> Bihar Brain Replacement Centre Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:32, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I just take the link out entirely. While technically a company's website is a reliable source with respect to basic information about the company, if the only thing that it's doing is verifying the existence of the company it's not needed. Qwyrxian (talk) 02:53, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Overhaul[edit]

I'm going to ditch the columns. I may add div col div col end in the end. I think that doesn't render on some browsers, but this system of placing code to break columns starts to become a mess as new items are added. It also confuses newcomers adding items and causes us to go back and fix things. I just don't think it's worth it. Anyhow, I want to clean this up and add a bunch of links. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 13:09, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Result:

Constructive:

 • Tons of fixes and formatting and cleanup
 • Removed lots of duplicates
 • Removed lots of redundant comma section name
 • Alphasorted to help prevent future duplicates
 • Linked everything in sight. This will discover existing articles.

Destructive:

 • Quite a few ambiguous or incorrect bluelinks. I will click the most obvious ones and dab them. Hopefully others will too.
 • Should be a few errors.

This is a net gain I think. Please be patient while I compare to the old version to disambiguate and correct and good bluelinks accidentally damaged. Eventually, this can be put back into columns if seen fit. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 14:44, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

All  Done Anna Frodesiak (talk) 16:15, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I like the removal of columns and cleanup...but I thought we agreed before not to link the redlinks, given that the vast majority of these are not and will never be notable enough for an article? Qwyrxian (talk) 23:20, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I do understand. Maybe we should reconsider that because, when links were added to all, it revealed a great many new bluelinks.
Plus, when someone adds a new item to the list, they will surely see the bluelinks, and will be more likely to create the article to draw attention to their organization. Sure, some will be ma and pa operations, and the article won't be notable enough, but many will be notable, as often staff from large institutions adds the entry.
It also helps us, at a glance, see the percentage of blue, otherwise completely unknown. What do you think?
Finally, keeping everything red, even new entries, allows us the option at any time of, via html/regex magic, zaping all the red en masse. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:02, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
A quick comparison of before and after overhaul shows about a doubling of bluelinks to articles over the past couple of years. These were sitting there unrevealed. That makes a pretty strong case for maintaining redlinks here and in other such articles. Thoughts? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 01:57, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hmmmm...alright. I still wish there were some way we could limit this list to only actual hospitals (i.e., medical providers that have multiple specialties and provide at least some in-patient care). The problem is, I wouldn't know how to go about making such reductions. Qwyrxian (talk) 03:05, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
I also wish we could identify which is which. Maybe they'll run out of hospitals to list. :)
I was just over at Talk:List of hospitals in Pakistan/List of hospitals in Pakistan. What do you think we should do about those tags? Pretty unsightly. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:14, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal for state-wise lists[edit]

I think we should create lists of hospitals for each state and move the list of hospitals under each state here to those pages. And this page should look like similar to List of hospitals in the United States. Aravind V R (talk) 22:06, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ugh. Technically you're right. Sadly, that will mean for people like Anna and myself, that we'll have to watch over a much larger number of articles...but it would be the proper approach to bring this down to a reasonable size. Feel like tackling the work? Qwyrxian (talk) 22:20, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That sounds reasonable. A few points:
People cite WP:NOTDIRECTORY but haven't read it. It says that List of hospitals in India if fundementally an okay type of list. It must contain a list of hospitals in India and generally no other items and no phone numbers, etc.
So, what list items are acceptable? I've been discussing this issue for years. To me, this makes the most sense:
Bluelinks obviously fine. Redlinks and blacklinks are the same because people just add the brackets willy nilly. The case for only bluelinks is countered with "Hey, blacklinks in List of hospitals in the United States will get articles fast if worthy so only bluelinks should be there. But, not so with Japan or Pakistan list articles. The items on those lists take longer to get articles. Booting them off the list means they're less likely to become articles. Their presence, whether black or red, encourages others to start the article."
So, do we need to vet? Sure, googling each item isn't very practical. If List of Hospitals in Notondamap has black or redlinked Notondamap Central Hospital, we leave it. If it has Sammy's Upstairs Clinic, it's probably safe to remove. We use discretion. With schools and hospitals, etc, we err on the side of inclusion. With companies, etc, we err on the side of exclusion.
Anyway, you may disgree with this, but that's where I'm at.
 • The lists should contain more than just the items because that's what categories are for. Perhaps we could agree on some sort of table with fields. We could examine other lists for ideas. Tables are also good because of their sortability.
 • I would be happy to help set this up and keep an eye on all province list articles.
Sorry for the long post. Thoughts? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 22:31, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've blanked the edit notice, as it is not what policy says (Alexf was unhappy before when I reverted his removal of redlinks). As for the rest, I'll get back to you later. Qwyrxian (talk) 22:37, 27 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. I get your point. No argument on this List then as it might encourage article creation. I still hold on the issue for lists of people as it invites people adding themselves. Cheers. -- Alexf(talk) 23:58, 1 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Clean up and referencing[edit]

All the small hospitals, nursing homes are mentioned in this page which is not required and only the major hospitals which serves to a great extent to the city people, people from other parts of the country and people from abroad to be mentioned here as this page list hospitals in india so those hospitals need to have a decent profile. And moreover hospitals which exist in some other city is mentioned in some other city list. so its better to reference not all hospitals atleast which requires. I have cleaned things which am aware of and will do referencing as well. Will try to remove the links step by step from this article. If anyone could help and join will be nice. Thanks Sayowais (talk) 14:40, 16 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Only notable hospitals with articles[edit]

This list should only contain notable hospitals and should list articles not every hospital that exists. Wikipedia is not a directory. I'm going to remove all of the entries without articles unless someone comes up with a good argument against doing so. --Michig (talk) 06:35, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Protection?[edit]

I am inclined to semi-protect this page due to the persistent addition of minor health facilities, medical schools, and things that simply don't have articles by anonymous and inexperienced editors. Thoughts? --Michig (talk) 12:56, 19 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not done. Actually chain/network hospitals should not be listed under individual cities/states. Wikipedia is not a directory. Have removed some chain hospitals now and will continue doing that. Hence not listing anything under Nashik; in fact removing all from Nashik. Only articles related to individual hospitals should be included here. §§Dharmadhyaksha§§ {Talk / Edits} 07:09, 23 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
