Article needs cleanup[edit]

I might work on this tomorrow, but as of right now the article needs some kind of parameters in regards to population (there is at least one example that's close to 50 people). Any city that doesn't have an article or source for both the population AND the elevation should (and probably will) be removed. Ncboy2010 (talk) 02:54, 4 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wenquan ("Wenzhuan")[edit]

No matter what the Guinness book says, this place does not fit this article's criteria. (By the way, the name is properly transcribed Wenquan.) There is no way this Wenquan, together with the nearby Wenquan Military Post, will have over 1000 people (which is this article's cut-off criterion). The entire Tanggulashan Town, of which Wenquan is a part, is reported to have less than 2000 people; they are spread out over several small communities along the Qinghai-Tibet Highway and Railway, and Wenquan is certainly not the largest community among them. -- Vmenkov (talk) 17:50, 26 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Cleanup of mistakes / Metric should be primary[edit]

Three of the previously seven 15,000+ towns had incorrect elevations and were not consistent with other parts of wikipedia, I have relegated two of these but have left Tanggulashan in place for now. Tanggulashan may be below 15,000 feet.

The measurements should be primarily in metric. All of the listed countries use the metric system and also to be more consistent with other parts of Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest_towns_by_country). 4,500 meters looks like a more appropriate cutoff (11 towns). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.56.235.49 (talk) 09:24, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

India and Tibet[edit]

India and Tibet have numerous military encampments, not cities or villages, with no civilian population at all, much less year-round. Ukdungle (which I just removed from this list) and Daulat Beg Oldi (over 5000 meters) are two examples in India. Hikkim, Himachal Pradesh in India has residences from 4330 to 4400 meters. Komic village two km to the southeast of Hikkim has residences up to 4520 meters, and Korzok village on Tso Moriri has year-round residences to 4570 meters. When I visited Sumxi in 2007, it had around 150 people, most of them civilians, and it appeared to be a permanent settlement at 5200 meters. Now, I see on Bing that it has been expanded significantly since then, it is many times as big, but possibly, it may be mostly military. Worth investigating. Chuling is a highest settlement[edit]

Chuling is highest settlement with altitude of 14,000 ft in the Saltoro valley, District Gangche, Gilgit Baltistan, Pakistan. Though it is not a permanent settlement. Here people of the Goma village stay for four months. And the altitude of Goma village is 11000 ft. It is a permanent human settlement. I want to add these two in the list. Gorak Shep[edit]

How about Gorak Shep? It is the next and last settlement after Lobuche on the EBC Trek. It is at least as big as Lobuche, which is in the list. And it is higher than any settlement in the list: 5,164 metres (16,942 ft) elevation. It would be first.
