Possible addition[edit]

Hello Erik. The 1976 film Drive-In (film) has a film showing at the Drive-In that is a parody of the disaster films of the era. It is mentioned here that it was called Disaster '76 but I know that can't be used as a ref. I saw this waaaay back when and it was a hoot. I hope you get the chance to work on this list one day. Cheers. MarnetteD|Talk 23:47, 31 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the note! :) I know there are a few more list sources out there that I think can be referenced to ultimately have a Wikipedia list with obvious notability. Will look for a source that for one when I get back to this. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 00:03, 1 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Home Alone 2[edit]

In Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Kevin is watching Angels With Filthier Souls. Charlotte Allison (Morriswa) (talk) 18:46, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Charlotte, good one! I've added it to the list. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 18:59, 13 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

New suggestion[edit]

Hello. May I also recommend the 2000 film "Shadow of the Vampire" with John Malkovich and Willem DaFoe. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.13.83.138 (talk) 16:53, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the suggestion. IMO the reason that doesn't work for this list is the film being made is a real film - ie Nosferatu. I can see where the title of this list could be a bit confusing but the "film within the film" should be one that does not exist. That is what makes it fictional. If you combine those two films with Nosferatu the Vampyre you can have a fun spooky film evening. Thanks again. MarnetteD|Talk 18:07, 19 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

State and Main[edit]

Lztv81, good suggestion! I'll add it today unless you want to try yourself. You can use this as a source. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 12:23, 4 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Itchy + Scratchy Movie[edit]

Isn't there an Itchy + Scratchy Movie inside the Simpsons Movie, at the very start? Adpete (talk) 03:52, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

And a movie at the end of Pee-wee's Big Adventure, possibly of the same name. Adpete (talk) 03:54, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
And Jaws 19 in Back to the Future 2, or does that not count because none of it is shown except the promo? Adpete (talk) 03:57, 26 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced content[edit]

I removed unsourced content as seen here. Content can be restored only with sourcing. Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 15:39, 25 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

reviewed, good call IMO: Most of the films removed are trivial references; lets keep this page to movies about making a movie or it will balloon out of all reason. However, one of the Woody Allen movies looks good; will try & source it when I get to my desktop. --D Anthony Patriarche (talk) 18:52, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
On second look, I wonder if The Purple Rose of Cairo is a good candidate for this list? Since the film within the film is The Purple Rose of Cairo it's not a fictional film. Comments?--D Anthony Patriarche (talk) 19:09, 11 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Dance 'til Dawn[edit]

In the 1988 made-for-TV teen flick Dance 'til Dawn, there's a scene where some of the kids are watching an undetermined old horror movie. One of the voice of the actors in the fake movie sounds a lot like Steve Martin! ---------User:DanTD (talk) 16:43, 1 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

8 1/2[edit]

Is there a reason for not including 8 1/2? I would have thought it iconic. --D Anthony Patriarche (talk) 14:58, 9 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Chronological[edit]

The list may work better chronologically. Alphabetically it's a random catch-all and doesn't seem as encyclopedically informative as a presented progression of the topic would show. Randy Kryn (talk) 12:36, 20 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not opposed to chronological. I've stuck with alphabetical for consistency and simplicity, though. I recall a discussion with one such list where the consensus leaned toward alphabetical, so I stuck with that. With a chronological approach, it's another fork in the road, to decide about sorting by newest or oldest. Should readers start at the oldest (likely unfamiliar) and work forward, or start at the newest (likely familiar) and work their way back in time? The re-ordering can be done here. It's just not clear to me what rules of thumb to follow. Are you not able to sort by year yourself? Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 13:34, 20 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

why is Argo not in the list?[edit]

I'm surprise to see that this list doesn't include Argo (2012 film) and I think it falls perfectly in the description of "films that feature fictional films as part of their narrative" I was going to add it but I want to hear a second opinion Osw719 (talk) 01:16, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

AFAIK all of the entries have actual (physical) films being made or shown. The one in Argo is just a ruse and no attempt is made to make the proposed film. Now I am just one editor and if you want more input you could try asking at the Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Film. Regards. MarnetteD|Talk 03:15, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with MarnetteD. However, perhaps it could be added to the "See also" section as tangentially related? Erik (talk | contrib) (ping me) 12:56, 25 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
