Holocaust-era Jews

Germany revoked Jews' citizenship and murdered them. There are many prominent Jews listed in this article who, because of this prominence, were, together with their families, able to escape being murdered. Clearly, these "stateless" Jews who mostly fled to such places as the U.S. and Israel, and obtained citizenship in these aforementioned places cannot be described as German. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.228.248.2 (talk) 07:56, 19 December 2006 (UTC).

According to German Americans, people with a German cultural or linguistic background belong into this group. It doesn't matter whether the Nazis revoked anyone's citizenship. That doesn't erase the cultural background. Besides, quite a few people on this list never had German citizenship in the first place.--134.130.4.46 14:27, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

Recent additions

Just to make these crystal clear, this is the reason some of these were removed recently: (I make no personal statement about whether or not I would or would not consider these people German-American, nor do I care, but the sources cited have to be 1. reliable, see WP:V and WP:RS, and they have to say explicitly that the person in question is German-American (WP:NOR), not anything that in any Wikipedia editor's opinion makes them that; the majority of these sources are random sites that copy either Wikipedia's article or the IMDB's trivia, neither of which is reliable)

  • Benjamin Bratt - [1] - 1. don't see why this site, "Mixed Folks", would be reliable. No authors credited. 2. Doesn't say he's a German-American anyway, just says his father has German and English ancestry. There is a difference.
  • China Chow - see above. [2] - not a reliable source, and #2 as well.
  • Kevin Costner - source [3] is reliable, but it says that Costner's family is "of Irish and German descent (with a hint of Cherokee blood)", not that Costner is a German-American. Reliable sources needed that state that Costner is German-American, rather than simply an American with mixed roots
  • Johnny Depp - [4] - not a reliable source as far as I can see - no credited author - doesn't say he's a German-American anyway
  • Cameron Diaz - [5] mixed folks again - one drop rule again. I've seen reliable sources, as well as Diaz herself, describe her as a Hispanic-American or a Cuban-American. Never seen anyone consider her German-American
  • Taylor Dooley - source is subject's website [6] - therefore reliable - but she describes herself as a "MUTT", not an X-American
  • Eric Douglas - source is the dreaded IMDB
  • Harrison Ford - source is the dreaded NNDB [7] (no credited author once again. Notice a pattern?); Ford has described himself as "Irish as a person and Jewish as an actor"; no indication that anyone or Ford himself considers him a German-American
  • Clark Gable - no source
  • Vivica Genaux - no source
  • Jennifer Love Hewitt - another celeb site with no credited author [8]
  • Gaby Hoffmann - another random site with no credited author [9]
  • Angelina Jolie - same as before http://hubpages.com/hub/Angelina_Jolie_Pics_and_Videos, a random site that copies Wikipedia's article
  • Stacy Kamano - mixed folks
  • Jimmy Kimmel - no source
  • Alison Lohman - more IMDB nonsense
  • Nick Nolte - no source
  • Jerry Orbach - reliable source - newspaper article - [10] - but it says he had a "Polish Catholic mother from Pennsylvania and a German Jewish father whose ancestry was Spanish Sephardic", doesn't say he was a German-American
  • Michelle Pfeiffer - no source
  • Lindsay Price - mixed folks
  • Freddie Prinze, Jr. - no source, and indeed a fairly ridiculous entry. He may be 1/4 German by ethnicity, but his father denied that ancestry his whole life. I doubt either Prinze, Jr. or any reliable source would say that he is German-American
  • Charlize Theron - not an American citizen, as far as I know, but I could be mistaken
  • Jon Voight - no source
  • Elijah Wood - [11] - another Wikipedia mirror, and "of X, Y, D, S, etc. descent" Mad Jack 04:51, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
