Cleanup needed[edit]

This article lacks encyclopedic context; why are these computer algebra systems important, and why are these aspects of them compared? Mathematical capabilities seem much more important in the long run than price, yet they are barely mentioned. —donhalcon^╤ 21:02, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

As always, I slightly disagree with your context comment, but would welcome expansion of the initial paragraph. Mathematical capabilities ARE important, but most tests for them would require original research, which is a no-no. I recently added a "notes" column, which is partially intended to specify which class of problems the product is meant for (though most have nothing in this column, as they are "general purpose"). --Karnesky 21:27, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How are things like price and stable version not original research? I'm pretty sure they're not published as articles in peer-reviewed journals or other credible non-commercial sources, which means they don't meet Wikipedia's citation policies. Peer-review on non-commercial isn't a criteria for whether a source is valid. Quoting WP:NOR: "Original research that creates primary sources is not allowed. However, research that consists of collecting and organizing information from existing primary and/or secondary sources is, of course, strongly encouraged." Price and version have reliable primary sources already in existance. Sources for mathematical capabilities and performance often don't exist & when they do, they often have a biased POV. --Karnesky 23:37, 7 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Why don't you list the features availible for each of the CAS, like from the page about CAS. The Notes column just isn't enough, especially for people who don't know much about CAS, or haven't read the CAS page.

Operating Systems[edit]

I changed the content of the Mac OS X, Linux and Unix columns for Maple from "?" to "Yes", since more recent versions of Maple support these (of course not every Linux distribution is directly supported, though) - this change is in accordance with this FAQ entry by Maplesoft.
