Merge proposal[edit]

I propose merging List of Tycoon games to this list. They cover more or less the same topic, and I don't see the need for the redundancy. SharkD (talk) 01:34, 3 February 2009 (UTC)]]]]]bfbfomran]] (talk) 07:22, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I added all the games from the other list for which I could easily find information. I'll make one more pass with a little more effort so that noone can claim that information was deleted. Then I'll do the redirect. SharkD (talk) 19:13, 3 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I double-checked everything from List of Tycoon games and made sure they are in Chronology of business simulation video games. Tavatar (talk) 16:51, 19 August 2009 (UTC)frrfqhrfhrhqerqerfqehr hy r[reply]

Sources?[edit]

After looking for a while for "School District Tycoon" from the developers "TVA", I have not found any results, just the 2004 game "Shool Tycoon". Any sources to the game? Does it exists? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 88.17.125.18 (talk) 21:26, 13 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Request edit on 9 December 2019[edit]

Dear editors!

Extended content

I am the developer of Computer Tycoon, so according to Wikipedia rules I have COI (conflict of interest) to directly edit the list. Therefore, I'd like to recommend adding "Computer Tycoon" to the list which is a business strategy game for the PC and the Mac.

I would like to apologize for my earlier COI edits on the list when I re-added CT (and/or other games) to the list after deletion, but I'd also would like to inform you, that the first addition of Computer Tycoon to the list and most of the replacements were not made by me, but players of my community. Understanding that as a tycoon game developer I should not directly edit this list even if on a genre filtered dynamic list it is not really possible to "violate the neutral point of view policy or to omit negative information" (quoted from Wikipedia), I am going to use talk pages instead, with a registered username from now on. (My unconscious COI edit was actually revealed by myself on Reddit, when I didn't understand why my game was deleted after I've re-added it after its deletion).

I was informed that at this point Computer Tycoon is always removed because of COI (doesn't matter who the editor is) - and I assume it is partially because the additions were not made by registered users. The original CT listing was removed because of the lack of a link to the game according to the list's history. So if somebody happens to add it again, please don't forget to add its official homepage or its steam page, please.

Here are a few guidelines I've found to give a little credit to my request:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest#How_to_handle_conflicts_of_interest "COI editors should not edit affected articles directly, but should propose changes on article talk pages instead."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Dispute_resolution Focus on article content: "Focus on article content during discussions, not on editor conduct; comment on content, not the contributor. Wikipedia is written through collaboration, and assuming that the efforts of others are in good faith is therefore vital."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:What_%22Ignore_all_rules%22_means#Use_common_sense Use common sense: "Wikipedia has many policies or what many consider "rules". Instead of following every rule, it is acceptable to use common sense as you go about editing. Being too wrapped up in rules can cause loss of perspective, so there are times when it is better to ignore a rule. Even if a contribution "violates" the precise wording of a rule, it might still be a good contribution. Similarly, just because something is not forbidden in a written document, or is even explicitly permitted, doesn't mean it's a good idea in the given situation. Our goal is to improve Wikipedia so that it better informs readers."

"Why isn't "use common sense" an official policy? It doesn't need to be; as a fundamental principle, it is above any policy."

According to common sense and my good faith (even if I've made a mistake), in a tycoon/business game chronology my game is still appropriate and it would be definitely better added by you instead of anybody from my community - generating a never ending cycle of additions and deletions.

Thank you very much for your help and time! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Progorion (talkcontribs) 08:40, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  References requested

  • A notice at the top of the article states that the list may be expanded with items that are reliably sourced. To that end, please provide references originating from reliable sources for the information you would like to add. A Wikilink for the game and the company would be nice — although looking at the list, I don't see that this has been made a requirement for this article (that the item be independently notable in Wikipedia). So references would be a good place to start. Please feel free to add them below this post.
  • Also, the COI editor is reminded of the need to sign all talk page posts using four tildes. Thank you!

References to Computer Tycoon[edit]

Thank you for your reply! Indeed, Wikipedia pages are not required on this list. Actually, it would be very hard to build a chronology of these games otherwise, when printed media is less popular year after year.

The information should be something like this: TBD Computer Tycoon Modern WIN, OSX in Early Access on Steam since 2017

The link (which are also the references) should be either the homepage or the steam page of the game:

Official Site: http://www.computertycoon.com

Steam: https://store.steampowered.com/app/686680/Computer_Tycoon/

Other references:

IndieDB https://www.indiedb.com/games/computer-tycoon (the game's current position is 174 of 53021)

  Discussion required

  • The requesting editor should discuss these changes with local editors in order to determine if consenus exists for these changes to be made. According to the changes made by GermanJoe, it does not appear that this information is acceptable for inclusion at this moment in time. Please feel free to state the reasons why this information should be included here.
  • The requesting editor may also wish to broadcast requests for edits at the talk pages of the WikiProjects which govern this article. Those projects are usually listed at the top of an article's talk page. Please note that the {{request edit}} template is not used in Wikiproject talk pages, although stating that you have a COI (if that is the case) would be considered helpful.
  • The requesting editor is reminded a second time of the need to sign all posts using four tildes.

  • Correct me if I am wrong, but the game hasn't even been fully released yet and is still in early access phase (according to Steam). The listed sources are promotional beta (or alpha) reviews and listings on involved websites - clearly part of the company's marketing efforts. Such sources are not fully reliable and do not establish notability. Admittedly the current list has many similarly flawed old entries, but that's no reason to add more of the same flaws - especially when the addition is clearly intended to promote a new early-access game (see also WP:PROMO). Wikipedia is no PR platform: if the game is fully released and/or has been covered by credible expert reviews, then it might be possible to add an entry at a later time. GermanJoe (talk) 17:52, 9 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

  • As the description of this list indicates: "This is a comprehensive index of business simulation games, sorted chronologically. Information regarding date of release, developer, platform, setting and notability is provided when available." notability is not a requirement. Actually 25% (including Computer Tycoon 78 from the 318 listed) of these games are not providing notability.
  • The description of this list is also not stating that early access games are not allowed. Several new early access games are available on the list such as Airport CEO, SimAirport, Software Inc., GearCity etc. Also, the fact that these games are early access - means that they will be permanently available on the main PC game seller platform: Steam - so these games won't disappear. (But even today, not accessible games are listed for historical reasons). Actually, for long years, it is a practice to include Early Access games on this list. The majority of indie games on this list (since early access is available on steam) were early access titles on this list.
  • The required pieces of information about these games are not expressing any opinions or review scores, but facts such as the name of the game, developer name, platform, setting, etc. Because of that the proof/evidence of these games' existence must be enough to list them. Obviously this list's goal is not judging or reviewing these games, but just creating an index as it is stated on the top of the list.
