I have tidied this up a bit - loads of "famous" bands still missing...

Clear out[edit]

What constitutes "famous"? There seems to be numerous bands on this list who are, at best, only locally known in Liverpool. And some, I suspect, are relative unknowns who've been added for a bit of publicity. I think it's about time to clean this list up and remove many of the more dubious entries. It does make the article look somewhat silly when many of Liverpool's "famous" bands have never been heard of -- this isn't a list of all Liverpool bands, after all. Unless anyone has any better ideas, at some point in the near future I intend (with a lot of help from Google) to start removing obvious candidates, such as those who haven't even merited their own article on a site like Wikipedia. Whoops -- just noted that the article has been retitled to drop the term "famous", although the main Liverpool article still links to this one as a list of "famous" bands. Even so, I still consider the list needs a bit of pruning and editing, if nothing else to indicate which bands are merely locally well known, and which have achieved national or international recognition. ok then Javakid - seeing how you're the self-styled expert on what "famous" means. What's your criteria? Just gigged around the city, had a deal / album, sold more than blah blag copies, Javakid knows more than 2 people who've heard of you.... come on mate - give us a clue? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Davidhughesdoran (talkcontribs) 21:14, 22 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Just come across this list and have weeded out a lot of irrelevant stuff, and moved others about. The issue for Wikipedia isn't "famous", it's notable, and the criteria here are set out in WP:BAND. I'll be working on this as time permits. --Rodhullandemu 02:52, 9 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I too have just happened upon this list and, as noted above, the WP:Band criteria inherent for those listed seems to be largely overlooked or ignored. It is currently short of references and predominately fails WP:V. Also given that the majority, if not all, of those listed therein should be notable enough to have their own Wiki articles, why is there a 'description' given for many entries ? In the most part these appear to constitute publicity and/or promotion, which is contrary to WP:SPIP. Unless some editors can come up with valid and pertinent arguments against the idea, which comply with Wikipedia editing policies, I feel a serious cull is in order.

The article has now been trimmed to exclude those that do not currently have their own Wikipedia article. This suggests they are not notable. If they are, then a Wiki article in their names needs to be created, and avoid any deletion process, before they are listed here. There is a further problem in that this article is light on references for all of those who are listed therein. I will try to work on this in the forthcoming weeks/months. Any help is appreciated. Please do not let this list grow like Topsy to include every Tom, Dick and Harry who has ever picked up a guitar, and has a slight connection to Merseyside. It makes a mockery of the article and is opposite to general Wikipedia editing guidelines, specifically WP:V and WP:NM. Many thanks, - Derek R Bullamore (talk) 13:04, 15 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
