Talk:List of awards and nominations received by Fifth Harmony

I brought up on the talk page of the 2014 Teen Choice Awards about sources differing on who won Choice Single Group (One Direction's "Story Of My Life" and Fifth Harmony's "Bo$$"). For a while, the category in the article highlighted the two identified winners by the sources, and then I came across the broadcast of the show on YouTube. Please see the 2014 Teen Choice Awards talk page; while the video does contain that Fox broadcast from August, and I deem it acceptable on its content, the fact it was uploaded by a user likely not a holder of the copyright makes it unsuitable to use in Wikipedia. However, upon watching that video, I discovered it was One Direction, and not Fifth Harmony, who won that category. As I point out on the 2014 Teen Choice Awards talk page, I invite whoever is concerned to watch the video with the broadcast to confirm the findings. Now, some are claiming Fifth Harmony won because voting was rigged, and some sources say they won, like [1]. Note, that same source is also indicating 5 Seconds of Summer won the Breakup Song category, which according to that video of the broadcast, One Direction also won, so I question the reliability here. I have been unable to find anything reliable and concrete that backs the claim that Fifth Harmony won Choice Single Group. Is there any video that shows them being presented with the surfboard for the category? Does any written source or video explain about an error in the presentation of the award (and not just list the winner of the award)? In light of conflicting sources, there needs to be substantial evidence to establish this claim, as in just seeing it in the list of winners without further explanation may not be enough. Adding in comment that I have tagged the result of the Choice Single Group category as in dispute, as User:179.158.244.201 has, without explanation, changed the result from "Nominated" to "Won" three times (and I've reverted the first two of those). As I point out above, there are conflicting sources, some saying Fifth Harmony won the award, and some saying One Direction won it. This is amidst controversy surrounding that the voting was rigged — teens not able to voice their vote in the final days, or more accurately, they feel their vote didn't count (a "committee" of producers known as Teenasaurus Rox, Inc. being responsible for selecting winners as stated in this article). What is not stated in any sources I've come across on the Internet thus far is how, or if, the outcome of this category was impacted, making it difficult to rely on the sources for accuracy. The sources don't show that there were co-winners for this category; it was either Fifth Harmony or One Direction. As I said above, and on the talk page for the 2014 Teen Choice Awards, in viewing the Teen Choice Awards via a YouTube video, it clearly showed One Direction as the winner (though it wasn't an award that was presented live). As I also said, Fifth Harmony is identified by some sources as the winner, but only in a list, without any explanation of how they won or why it wasn't One Direction, or whether the award to the latter was in error. I am neutral in this issue, as I am neither a fan of Fifth Harmony nor One Direction, but we need to find some way to get to the bottom of this dispute. There is a video of Fifth Harmony accepting their surfboard/award in the press room here [[2]] but other than that I don't think you'll find any articles explaining any of the weird rigged voting. The Teen Choice Awards basically have a disclaimer at the end of their show stating that producers can pick the winners from the top 4 in the category. OK, as I pointed out above, the result of the Choice Single Group category for the 2014 TCA is in dispute, with sources showing either One Direction or Fifth Harmony as the winner, depending on the source taken, but in reflecting on it some after almost two months (and nearly three months since the TCAs were broadcast), I am seeing no resolution to this problem, and all I'm seeing is what is shaping to be an edit war over sourced material regarding, in my opinion, a trivial award. I don't know if this can be taken to the dispute resolution noticeboard, and it gets complicated by the conflicting sources. Since a revert by ChamithN on October 24 [3], which restored the disputed tag on this award in the article, I've seen the following edits affect this part of the article: [4] [5] [6] [7] [8]. No resolution. Blatant removal of the maintenance tag. No bother even coming to the talk page. An editing war, involving at least three editors, over something that even secondary sources can't agree on. Definitely one fine mess those TCAs from this year have given us to deal with. So, the question is what do we do now? As for me, I'm taking a break from this article. MPFitz1968 (talk) 22:09, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

So you are saying that those editors were wrong? I never bothered to revert because I thought they watched award shows and changed number of awards accordingly. If you think there editor is disruptive I can help you to get page protection for this page. I didn't get involve because I live outside of US so I really don't know what happens in award shows. I only have internet as a news source --Chamith (talk) 02:19, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Chamith, the winners of awards, including those from award shows that are televised, should be clear and definitive. If there are co-winners of an award, that should also be made clear and definitive. If a controversy develops and has affected the outcome of a winner, it should be disclosed clearly and definitively. Any article written by a reliable source about an award show, including the Teen Choice Awards, and which could subsequently be used here in Wikipedia to source information provided, cannot deviate from these measures. And in this case, there is deviation and no explanation on why two winners are identified (not co-winners, just separate sources saying one or the other has won). Consider these sources (and look at the "Choice Single Group" winner in each): [9] [10] [11] [12]. That leaves editors to pick the source of their choice, which are not all in agreement, to back their statement (and this is assuming the sources are reliable). And because sources collectively have picked both One Direction and Fifth Harmony as winners, and they are not identified as co-winners, the outcome of this award is in dispute, and that's how it should show on the page (as well as the similar page listing awards and nominations received by One Direction).

Now, one source I didn't mention, the primary one of the telecast of the 2014 TCAs, which I watched via a YouTube video (but is not considered valid under Wikipedia's copyright guidelines, since the uploader likely is not an owner of the copyright — I do have link to the video on the talk page for the 2014 Teen Choice Awards), states clearly that One Direction won. Why a secondary source would say otherwise baffles me, and may be part of the voting controversy talked about in other sources, like [13]. Because editors are relying on one reliable source or another on this matter, they can't be wrong unless they fail to provide proof. In this circumstance, though, editors will be flip-flopping the result many times (as has been done already), and even claiming the other group of editors going for the other result as wrong (and to stop changing the result), which in itself is wrong (edit-warring).

Definitely will need to keep eye on this page; I wouldn't suggest WP:RPP for now, either here or on the similar page for One Direction, where a similar edit with a comment to stop changing the result (by the same user) was made, but the conflicting sources provide for no resolution I can think of to keep the outcomes listed in the articles stable. This all could've been avoided if the 2014 TCAs made their outcomes clear and definitive; instead, the mess on one outcome is leaving us scratching our heads. I have changed my stance a little bit from my last comment, but I'm staying out of reverting this particular outcome (though the "disputed" tag is, I feel, the best way to state the outcome). Semi-Protect[edit]

Apparently, a user wants to semi-protect this article, as we all know this manner should be hold in a voting option. I'm okay with users deciding whether or not to protect the page or not. As we can clearly see the list of award nominations keeps being changed for some reason by an unidentified user. If you have any concerns please contact me. GAN Comment/Suggestion to remove from GAN[edit]

@De88: This a list and not an article, which means it should not be put up for GAN. Instead, it should be put up for FLC if you believe that it is ready for that (you can look at other lists on similar subject matters for comparison). Here are some examples of lists like this: 1, 2, and 3. Aoba47 (talk) 15:44, 1 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I completely confused them. My apologies. I will move the list to its respected nomination page. De88 (talk) 19:54, 1 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@De88: No worries, it is an easy mistake. I just wanted to notify you about. Good luck with the FLC. Don't forget to complete all of the steps for the FLC process as it is more complicated than the process for GAN. Aoba47 (talk) 20:51, 1 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@De88: Just a notification, but you still have yet to fully complete the FLC posting. Aoba47 (talk) 19:14, 5 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Award section with no known sources[edit]

As I was editing the MTV Italian Music Award section, I came across a dead-end. When looking up the winners for said awards show, nothing shows up. Should this be deleted? De88 (talk) 06:41, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

MTV Italian Music Awards[edit]

The MTV Music Awards Italy are an annual award ceremony hosted by MTV Italy. The ceremony awards the best video, performers, and artists of the year. Fifth Harmony has been nominated twice.[1]

Year Nominee / work Award Result Ref.
2015 Fifth Harmony Best Artist from the World Nominated [2]
2016 Harmonizers Best Fan Nominated [3]
2017 Fifth Harmony Artist Saga Won [4]
  • I would say try to find a source for this, or source the award show itself as a last resort. Just try to make sure the information is accurate. Aoba47 (talk) 00:38, 7 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
    • @Aoba47: Fixed. Finally found the sources directly from the website. De88 (talk) 01:56, 8 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
