Correct list[edit]

This should be the only list for US WW2 military aircraft in Wiki since it gives all the required information: Service, manufacturer, designation and type.--Mrg3105 23:54, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Far from complete...[edit]

A few minutes browsing through the USAAC/USAAF type listings shows this page to be a long way from complete. A quick survey shows these types to be missing from the list:

  • North American A-27
  • Boeing XB-38 Flying Fortress re-engined B-17
  • Boeing XB-39 Superfortress re-engined B-29
  • Boeing YB-40 Flying Fortress B-17 bomber escort
  • Consolidated XB-41 Liberator B-24 bomber escort
  • Boeing XB-44 Superfortress upengined B-29 bomber
  • Beechcraft UC-43 Traveler (Staggerwing)
  • Douglas C-58 (B-18 Bolo)
  • Stout XC-65/XC-107 (Skycar light transport)
  • Douglas UC-67 (B-23 Dragon)
  • Spartan UC-71 (Executive)
  • Waco UC-72
  • Boeing UC-73 (Boeing 247)
  • Boeing UC-75 (Boeing 307)
  • Cessna C-77 (Cessna DC-6)
  • Junkers C-79 (single Ju 52)
  • Harlow C-80 (4x PJC-2)

etc, etc,.... Indeed - very few non-combat types have been included - and most of the lesser known transports and trainers are missing. I will add to the list as I can (gotta run now) but if you see something missing - please add it. Also wondering if the USCG should have its own section (during wartime it was a military service just like the rest). In addition, I think that each type listed should include the number operated, the date it entered service or was tested, the date it was retired or cancelled and notes if there was anything unusual - particularly about its aquisition - but they should wait until the list is a bit more complete.
