Other records[edit]

How about adding sections for Men's Indoor records, Women's Outdoor records and Women's Indoor records? The article title seems to have been set up for all records. And there's more to the sport than men competing outdoors. Truthanado (talk) 17:19, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I started an expansion. Help from track and field experts would be appreciated. Thanks. Truthanado (talk) 17:36, 2 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Relays[edit]

Any particular reason relay records are not listed? I think at least the Olympic and World Championship events (4x100 and 4x400) should be included. Mbiyetifono (talk) 22:01, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Team?[edit]

What is the purpose of the Team column - it seems to be a weird mix of equipment / club / nationality. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 51.9.119.140 (talk) 10:03, 3 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Road Mile Record[edit]

The table currently says Hobbs Kessler's 3:56 is an American record. This is not correct. For instance, here is an American who ran 3:51: https://results.nyrr.org/event/23FAM/result/16. William.g.lane (talk) 23:22, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

@William.g.lane, welcome back to Wikipedia. The Fifth Avenue Mile course isn't considered record eligible by World Athletics because it's point-to-point and it's possible for times to be wind aided if there's a tailwind. The Boston Marathon isn't record eligible for the same reason. Ciattei's time would be eligible for an American course/meet record but not an overall American record. This is based off my memory but I'll try to find a source to prove it. --Habst (talk) 23:49, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Source here: [1] "The Fifth Avenue Mile in New York City, which will be contested on Sunday, is the next premier road mile on the calendar, but it’s not eligible for world records." --Habst (talk) 23:52, 9 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Ah I see. There aren't too many one mile road courses that aren't point to point, I think. William.g.lane (talk) 23:15, 10 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]
