I would assume that nearly every major research university in the United States performs at least some defense-related basic research. Most of the laboratories presently included in this list are Department of Energy or Department of Defense federally funded research and development centers]], which are already included in a list. seems to be a case for an clarification or perhaps a merge, because this is a good format I note these seem to be the very major ones ones established in the 40s, unlike the larger list, and are major almost self-standing organizations. .
