Andy's Mom

Where is she? i think she is a relevant character, should list Mrs Davis there —Preceding unsigned comment added by 190.235.94.209 (talk) 14:03, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

The character is listed in the article.trainfan01 talk 18:22, April 14, 2010 (UTC)

Opening talk

There exists a Category:Toy_Story_characters, I think we should add {{main|}} as I've done for Buzz lightyear and Woody. It's not a bad idea to have an article for each of the most important characters, and just mention the rest of the characters in this article. I don't know much about Toy Story, (I just ended here reading a little about debian's naming...) so I hope somebody else knows what to do. I just wanted to notify you... Jopsen 20:07, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

Hey here it says that the Squeeze Toy Aliens apeared in Toy Story 1. Is this true? I don't think so. Buzz and the gang met them in TS 2, in a car, while trying to save Woody. Am I right? Zephyron 13:02, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

No. Buzz met them in Toy Story 1 at Pizza Planet, while he was trying to find a spaceship. Then Woody saw them... and yeah.--suit-n-tie 02:58, 31 August 2006 (UTC)

Can somebody fix the spelling of the jpeg file of Sarge's picture, as it appears as a caption underneath the photo? Sergeant is a military rank. Sargeant is a town in Minnesota. Grammaticus Repairo 15:49, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Why-Never mind. I'll do that.--Suit-n-tie 04:00, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
Grazie! Grammaticus Repairo 23:35, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

Where are we getting these ages for the Human Characters? I know as of Toy Story, Molly was younger than three, given Potato Head's comments about her, but nothing else seems to be official. Should we delete these figures? RMS Oceanic 14:07, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

Of course! No original info is allowed on Wikipedia. You all should know that!--Suit-n-tieWhat Have I Done?! 02:05, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Rex is from Dino-Riders

I have added the comment that Rex is based on the Tyrannosaurus from Dino-Riders. I have this toy, and Rex looks exactly like it. SpectrumDT 17:28, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

I've removed the comment, as it wasn't backed up by anything other than personal opnion. And based on this photo of the toy, I fail to see the resemblance, other than the fact both are based on a T-Rex. TheRealFennShysa 17:47, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Cross-link with Debian releases?

The Debian GNU/Linux distribution uses characters from the toy-story movie (so far only the first) as code names for their releases. It might be a nice idea to add that information to this list somehow, and explain which releases were codenamed what.

That should of course only be done if it doesn't confuse the hell out of people. you cant cuss in wiki

Is this legit?

"Bo Peep's Sheep is a porcelain genetically-mutant sheep with three heads, who is frequently seen around Bo. It's commonly mistaken for three sheep (it might be meant to be three sheep)." Zagalejo 22:38, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, but I'm not sure about the genetically-mutated part. Disco dude rock (talk) 04:24, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

Trivia: Debian

Is it OK to add a trivia section (is it the good name?) that mentions the use of the characters to name Debian releases? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Nowhere man (talkcontribs) 11:15, 2 April 2007 (UTC).

I think so; so, I added that bit of trivia. Of course, if someone else thinks differently, I suppose they can delete that piece of trivia. --Mark Alfred 03:03, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

Misquote corrected

Looking at the transcript, when the squeeze toy alien is chosen by the claw, he says "Farewell, my friends. I go on to a better place." This article has this incorrectly as "go to the outside." See http://www.script-o-rama.com/movie_scripts/t/toy-story-transcript.html.

Pixar Character list

I think we should the Toy Story, Monster Inc, bugs life, cars, and all othe pixar related character list combine to make one long page and history of Pixar chararcters. From User:4444hhhh

I don't think so. We already have info about the rest on other pages as this info consists of characters who have only appeared in the Toy Story series. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trainfan01 (talkcontribs) 22:05, 20 May 2010 (UTC)

Red rum

I've just watched the film. Hannah's Janie doll does not say 'red rum', only 'mama'. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Coozins (talkcontribs) 23:29, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

It does however say Red Rum in the Spanish version of the film. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alexethantoo (talkcontribs) 20:02, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Birth years for characters?

Where do these years come from? I haven't seen them in any sourcebooks at all. All that's been proven is that Andy's 6 in the original Toy Story, and 8 in the 2nd. It's also been said that Rex was made in 1989. - Disco dude rock (talk) 04:43, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

The Clock?

How about the Clock (or the Mutant Clock) that Sid used to set the alarm in Toy Story?--AkiStuart (talk) 19:02, 11 April 2010 (UTC)

I don't think so it has no face it does not speak and it does not move around like the other toys so I think it doesn't need to be mentioned as that could be more than you describe a poster as much. trainfan01 (talk) 19:14, May 3 2010 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trainfan01 (talkcontribs) 02:16, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Lotso and the other Sunnyside toys

Someone (Lotso612) created the Lotso Huggin Bear article recently, and I'm not so sure it needs to exist. There are spelling errors (including in the title) and formatting issues. While we're on this topic, when it is okay to add a section to this article (list of characters) of all of the Sunnyside Daycare characters? Discuss. -dogman15 (talk) 20:36, 17 April 2010 (UTC)

Well your said article has turned into a redirect now. As for the rest they were up on here previously but if you read my review below the info was very short and poorly written so I think it is best to wait until the film comes out before adding them as we then will be able to describe their roles better. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 02:15, 12 May 2010 (UTC).

Now they have been restored back on this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trainfan01 (talkcontribs) 16:04, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

New characters

The information on the sunnyside and bonnie characters is very short and poorly written so it must be expanded majorly. I removed the unsourced "Chuckles The Clown" character from the list because there has been no proof in any of the trailers or on the website. Also I removed the statement about Martin Short casting Bullseye as an there is once again no mentioning of this actor voicing this character at all. trainfan01 (trainfan01) 19:44 3 May 2010 —Preceding undated comment added 02:44, 3 May 2010 (UTC).

I agree with you that I don't remember every reading anything anywhere saying that Bullseye was originally going to have a voice (by Martin Short), but if a reliable source turns up stating that, it would be interesting to add in. As for Chuckles the Clown, he is indeed a character in Toy Story 3, it's just that he hasn't been publicized at all on the Internet. His voice is provided by James Anthony Cotton (no Wikipedia article yet), and in the film, Chuckles is one of Bonnie's toys. He describes to Woody how Lotso came to take over Sunnyside after being forgotton by his previous owner. I and thousands of other college students who saw the cliffhanger edition can attest to this. dogman15 (talk) 06:39, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Internet Movie Database is not an official source because it also mentions Charlie Adler as Wheezy, Frank Welker as RC (theres no way he would speak as it has been proven in the previous two films) and others so in that case do not trust everything on the site. IGN or a news sight mentioning that is more proven. trainfan01

I'm not buying the Charlie Adler/Frank Welker nonsense either. Likewise, I have no idea where those rumors came from, they're completely false. You're right, RC doesn't talk. (However, Frank Welker has been known to do animal vocalizations and sound effects in the past.) I haven't seen anything on IGN, and once IMDb receives it's press kit from the studio, everything in the cast & crew will be verified, correct, and reliable. dogman15 (talk) 15:34, 3 May 2010 (UTC)

Correct I will re-add the clown character if I can find a reliable source. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trainfan01 (talkcontribs) 02:58, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Actually more to the point the only image I can find of this character is here and it is not a movie related image as it looks more like something out of a magazine or flyer meaning it is a real life toy but there is no official artwork for this character anywhere else so I still am not sure if it will turn out true. trainfan01 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.50.10.254 (talk) 02:54, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

I added that picture. It's someone else's scanned image from The Art of Toy Story 3. That's an actual screenshot of rendered data from the computer printed on that page, not photo of a toy. dogman15 (talk) 06:14, 10 May 2010 (UTC)

wow, I didn't even know that. I don't have the book and I have not seen it anywhere at least that will hint somthing, I'll keep watch on the official site (Barbie was added to the site as she was not on it earlier). trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 02:20, 12 May 2010 (UTC).

I just got theToy Story 3 Essential Guide book and it has the image of Chuckles in it so it is not the above mentioned one but this one. So this proves things this character is confirmed. trainfan01 18:18 25 May 2010 —Preceding undated comment added 01:19, 26 May 2010 (UTC).

I have also noticed now that there is a title on "The Monkey" with no description at all and I have no idea what this is referring to. Is it referring to the the stampede of monkeys in the desert scene that we already have mentioned in the "Barrel O- Monkeys" section?

The Monkey is a very unpublicized character in Toy Story 3. He/it is one of those Cymbal-banging monkey toys. (SPOILERS ahead) He/it sits in the Sunnyside Daycare security office on the second floor at night, watching the CCTV monitors for toys trying to escape. If he sees one, he screeches and bangs the cymbals into the P.A. system's microphone, and the escaping toy is caught. (END SPOILERS) dogman15 (talk) 04:33, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Ok that explains it. It should be described under the title. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trainfan01 (talkcontribs) 16:06, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Did anyone here watch both Toy Story and Toy Story 3? Because I noticed that Pixar cheated. Dolly, one of Bonny's dolls, who is supposedly some kind of witch according to Bonnie, looks exactly the same as janie from Toy Story! Remember Janie? After the toys came to life in front of Sid, Sid runs inside. His sister is waiting for him. She is holding Janie/Dolly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Benschar (talkcontribs) 11:51, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Toy Train

Is it possible that the toy train that appears in the 1st Toy Story film in the said shot the same one that Woody is shown driving in the wierd desert scene in the Toy Story 3 trailer? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Trainfan01 (talkcontribs) 02:09, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

No, not necessarily. In the western make-believe scenario, the (realistic) train does not look like the toy train from Toy Story. (I haven't personally seen this train, but I'll take people's word that it exists, and that it doesn't look like real train.) It could be implied that outside of the imagination, the realistic train is represented by a/the toy train in Andy's room. dogman15 (talk) 04:30, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

I thought so because if it was true, it would be put under that section. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 16:11, 16 May 2010 (UTC).

Chuckles

From this character's section

"Chuckles (voiced by James Anthony Cotton) is a clown with red gloves, shoes, a lip and red nose, purple overals, blue eyes and hair, a green shirt and pink cheeks toy "

This sentence sounds kind of misleading and much of this part of info is not notable (who cares about the lip part?). Much of this info clearly relates to a generic clown (which this character clearly is) and when describing a character it does not need to have every detail. So maybe this could be re-written. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 03:15, 5 June 2010 (UTC).

I have removed all of the features from the info. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 02:08, 7 June 2010 (UTC).

The article section about Chuckles states that Daisy's parents gave him to Bonnie, which is not true, as he was taken to Sunnyside Daycare and was broken, so Bonnie took him home and repaired him. 66.157.83.74 (talk) 02:15, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

I have also now deleted the statements about this character's voice comparisions as it appears to be unclear and also unsourced. trainfan01 7:47, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

Another one

I just deleted this statement from the Totoro section as not being relevant to this film.

"he also made another cameo at the bottom of the water tower in the noah byrd movie"

It also has poor grammar (no uppercase, no period etc.) as well. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 04:14, 6 June 2010 (UTC).

Copy edit request

An editor requested for copy-editing. At this stage, the article has several issues. Please fix them and then contact me. Thanks, Thanks, Davtra (talk) 11:33, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

One thing I can see as well that is from the Twin Barbies section is "This may also mean a reapearence of the prospector in Toy Story 3 as well which would mean the reaperence of both previous Toy Story "villans"". This appears to be speculation and it probably won't happen. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 03:30, 18 June 2010 (UTC).

As of that case I have now deleted this sentence. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 01:39, 19 June 2010 (UTC).

I also have been trying to update some statements as well (things such as "in the trailer" have been removed). trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 19:32, 22 June 2010 (UTC).

Slinky Dog Passage

The last sentence of the second to last paragraph in Slinky Dog's passage is a run-on sentence of ridiculous proportions. It isn't very clear at all. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.228.178.10 (talk) 12:28, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Sid's character?

I don't mean to be completely positive here, but it seems to me that at the end of TS3, Sid's character wasn't exactly the same as the first movie. From the way he looked when he saved Lotso at the dump, it seems that he now likes collecting thrown away or forgotten toys at the dump, even if they don't appreciate being a bumper sticker, if you know what I mean. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.28.115.207 (talk) 13:07, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Sid was driving the truck in the beginning that the toys almost got thrown out in, and he was driving the truck that took them home in the end. He wasn't the guy who tied Lotso to his truck. --DrBat (talk) 21:48, 19 June 2010 (UTC)

Woody section

Someone has deleted almost 90 percent of the desription on Woody and now it only has the paragraph that describes his appearaences outside of the Toy Story films (outakes appearences, video games, etc.). Can someone revert it all back? trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 02:01, 21 June 2010 (UTC).

To whoever it is that keeps editing and messing with this section, STOP! trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 14:31, 26 June 2010 (UTC).

Or how about we better yet remove all the info from the sections on Woody, Buzz and Jessie and just simply redirect to their articles. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 02:56, 30 June 2010 (UTC).

Now User:Lord Opeth has deleted Bullseye as well as deleting alot of info from the main characters sections. STOP! trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 20:47, 30 June 2010 (UTC).

To prevent anymore of this horrible edit war, I have removed all of the info from the sections on Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie and have redirected that to their main articles since the List of Mario series characters article has it done that way on it's main characters (Mario, Luigi, etc.). Plus there is more info on their articles anyway. Do not mess with this again. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 02:33, 1 July 2010 (UTC).

Now Zurg's info has been removed and redirected to his main article because of the same reason. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 03:41, 1 July 2010 (UTC).

What the?

"Parents have complained of their children being terrified by the monkey's screechy chatter."

Who cares? What makes this notable? It also is lacking a source as well. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 02:07, 27 June 2010 (UTC).

I agree! --K21t11 (talk) 02:38, 7 February 2011 (UTC)

Janitor?

Does anybody think that the janitor from Toy Story 3 should be added? He does have a few lines, and appears during the bathroom escape scene.--76.23.72.69 (talk) 14:59, 28 June 2010 (UTC)

Probably so, since aside from your above info, we have mentioned every single human that appears. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 02:54, 30 June 2010 (UTC).

We should also add Frog as well (who I guess would be some toy frog, although I have not seen the film yet). trainfan01

Big Baby edits

i understand that articles must mainly stick to the point, but additional edits help create a well-rounded view of minor characters as well as major ones. I don't mean to be stubborn, but if my edits are removed again, I'd like an alternate explanation other than it's simply "too long". No hard feelings. 173.28.115.207 (talk) 01:54, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

3 main protagonist ? and I dont think Buzz 2 is antagonist

I know Jessie has a important role in Toy Story 2 and 3 but comparing to Woody and Buzz we cant put her as one of 3 main protagonists so I think it should be changed in Woody,Buzz,Jessie and ... articles --WikiBahal (talk) 16:37, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

I forgot, about Buzz 2, he isnt antagonist is he ? he is just what Buzz was in first movie and thats why he fought with Buzz , and he helped toys in finding Woody --WikiBahal (talk) 16:43, 4 July 2010 (UTC)

Rather unclear statement

"Big Baby says one line in the film, the child who spoke the line was named Woody, presumably named after one of the film's main protagonists." This statement sounds kind of unclear and the end of the statement appears to be speculation. I can't think of how to re-word this. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 16:58, 4 July 2010 (UTC).

I have moved this statement towards the top of the section (when it is describing the character) and deleted the speculative part as it is completely unsourced. trainfan01 —Preceding undated comment added 13:57, 5 July 2010 (UTC).

Troll

Various troll-dolls, identical in appearance to the Troll character save for different coloured hair, appear in the opening sequence of Toy Story 3, as passengers on the runaway train. This seems like relevant enough information to add to the section on Troll. However, it has been removed twice after I added it. Why? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.212.91.157 (talk) 17:02, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

I don't know why, but it certainly should be up there. trainfan01 20:47, July 7, 2010 (UTC)

I've re-inserted it back up. Trainfan01 7:09, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

Lego Minifigures

what??????? under the Andy's Toys section, it says that lego minifigures were standing along side lotso at sunnyside, or something along those lines. First of all, I do not think there were any lego minifigures at sunnyside, and second if they DID actually exist, they would be in the Sunnyside daycare section. someone please clear that up for me. Mrprofdrjjjj (talk) 20:36, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Expand this statement

I have tagged the statement that says that Bo Peep is voiced by "many other voice actors in her other appearences" as being weasel words because it should be stated who these "other voice actors" are, otherwise it will be deleted. trainfan01 9:04, July 6, 2010 —Preceding undated comment added 16:04, 6 July 2010 (UTC).

I have also tagged the statement in the Mr. Potato Head section "and by Kenneth Mars in one of the video games" for clarification as it needs to be stated in which video game is he voiced by Kenneth Mars. trainfan01 18:53, July 12, 2010 (UTC)

Is Lotso a real toy?

Apparently, someone I've known has managed to find a stuffed bear from his attic who looks exactly like the Lotso Huggins Bear, right down to the fuchsia fur and the strawberry scent. This leads me to believe he is a real toy (a la Mr. Potato Head, Slinky Dog, etc.) or based on this toy. (This occurred before the Toy Story 3 Lotso dolls were for sale.) Can anyone verify it? Ron Stoppable (talk) 23:40, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Clean up

I have finished cleaning up all this non notable, misleading and speculative junk on this page. I am keeping watch on this. trainfan01 20:52, July 12, 2010 (UTC)

Dolly

Dolly's profile on this page mentions that she is 30 years old, sourceless. I don't remember reading anything like that anywhere. 76.175.113.248 (talk) 18:47, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Of course, many made up ages for characters like this have been inserted up here lately (Chuckles being 73 years old, Al being 38 years old, etc.) These have all been deleted. trainfan01 17:37, July 21, 2010 (UTC)

RC

Why do people keep editing that RC wasn't in the film. He appeared the background when Andy's being measured in the archive footage. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.66.198.195 (talk) 00:21, 23 July 2010 (UTC)

And you're exactly right. I will correct that statement. trainfan01 20:01, July 24, 2010 (UTC)

Buzz 2

I've noticed that the title of the section of Buzz #2 keeps getting changed including "Bonus Belt Buzz", "Decluded Buzz" and now "Utility Belt Buzz". Why do we need to keep changing this? trainfan01 7:07, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

Also, what happened to the Emperor Zurg article? trainfan01 6:44, August 5, 2010 (UTC)

After looking back through history, it appears as that article has been merged. trainfan01 19:22, September 18, 2010 (UTC)

Major cleanup

I propose returning this article to this edit or otherwise removing all of the unsourced, peacock, opinion, etc., from this article. Prior to the major culling I did with these edits (and as the page stands now with the unsourced reinsertions made by this edit that include a link to youtube and the removal of tags for refimprove, a subscription service, etc.) the article violated several WP policies. As I noted when I added tags with this edit before ultimately cleaning the page myself, "should either meet WP:STANDALONE, WP:Source list, & WP:NLIST by removing most of content leaving wikilinks, or meet WP:V, WP:RS, and WP:N through sourced statements". There are only three sources in this article, none of them meeting WP:RS, and yet only three of the entries on this "list" have WP articles. This should, at the very least, be a list of WP articles, with any characters not having an article being listed with an appropriate RS. Novaseminary (talk) 13:47, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

I also note that as recently as a few days ago, this article was tagged, and had been for almost a year. The tags were removed without discussion or an edit summary by an IP editor with this edit. So, the cleanup is not a new idea. Novaseminary (talk) 18:35, 30 August 2010 (UTC)
In light of the article having been tagged for nearly a year, and no discussion here in response to edit summaries or the first post in this section, I have returned to the article to its cleaned-up form as proposed above (and reincorporated a constructive edit that occurred in the meantime). Before reinserting any of the unsourced material, I would urge editors to discuss it here. Better yet, add it with reliable sources so as to comply with WP:V, etc., keeping in mind that the burden is on the editor seeking to insert material to show why it belongs (WP:BURDEN). Novaseminary (talk) 21:54, 30 August 2010 (UTC)

This article is now also tagged as being like a personal essay (it only consists of brief sentences that lack any bold lettering as well). If you look at other pages such as the List of Cars characters page, it is not given in this essay style at all (because it is something that Wikipedia is not). If we go by this logic on this page, then it probably should be done to the other list of characters pages. If this article does not get much improvement against its reliable sources or the essay mess it is in, it will be sent for deletion. trainfan01 19:47, August 30, 2010 (UTC)

The Cars list is itself not a great WP example; it's not well-sourced and has too much detail. But it is better sourced than this article. The tone of the entries on this (the Toy Story characters article) list needs to be less third-grade book report and more neutral and businesslike (WP:TONE). For more on how to write WP articles about fiction, you might want to read Wikipedia:Manual of Style (writing about fiction), especially the section on sources and section on summary style ("The spinout article should concisely provide details of the topic or topics covered in the work – just because the spinout article is given more space to grow does not mean that excessive plot summaries or fictional character biographies are appropriate."). The major characters with their own articles can receive minimal descriptions because they have their own articles. The other characters should receive discussion in proportion to their role in the plot or in the franchise (WP:UNDUE) keeping in mind the amount of coverage given to the various elements in the articles for each movie and in Toy Story (franchise). Novaseminary (talk) 04:38, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
This edit's gone way too far! Lots of characters that redirect to this page have gone completely (e.g. where's Stinky Pete? -- a major TS2 character) and lots of useful details have been deleted for no clear reason. I agree the personal essay stuff about character motivation can go, and that there's no point in retelling the entire plotlines from every character's point of view, but surely some of these characters need more than one line? 93.97.113.174 (talk) 11:10, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
Feel free to add back in characters that are important to the movie(s). Because of the total lack of sources and cruft, it was difficult to tell what is important. And probably several of the characters need more than one line. Feel free to add more, but try to do so per Wikipedia:Manual of Style (writing about fiction). When material is added properly, it is much easier to determine its relevance. Novaseminary (talk) 13:41, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

I completely disagree with this "clean-up", which resulted in the destruction of the article. The previous versions were cruft, I know, but this new version is ridiculous. Take a look at List of Tokyo Mew Mew characters, List of characters in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow, Characters of Final Fantasy VIII or List of Naruto characters. We can have something like, at least in format. We can begin by removing excessive plot detail but expanding these one-sentence mentions. We can also remove minor characters (there are lots of toys and humans that play no role after all). --LoЯd ۞pεth 14:46, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

I agree that the current version is not good. It would never get to good, though, without eliminating the cruft and allowing the article to grow with soruces. We also agree that some minor characters should be removed and excessive plot detail should not be in the article (as it had been). Let's start reinserting what can be sourced and actually belongs in the article. Novaseminary (talk) 15:01, 31 August 2010 (UTC)
With these edits, User:Chickenmonkey went a long way toward formatting this article similarly to the articles mentioned by Lord Opeth. I think the List of characters in Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow and Dawn of Sorrow article is a good enough template for this article. I would suggest that appropriate next steps would be inserting more introduction and context into the lead, as would fleshing out the descriptions (and sources) for the main characters. And since Lord Opeth thinks at least some characters should be removed, perhaps Lord Opeth or others could suggest which ones should go (or just boldly make the edits with an appropriate edit summary). I think these steps will help avoid this article returning to its prior history of rather random back-and-forth unsourced edits by IP (and registered) editors who insert their take on the various characters without regard to WP:UNDUE or WP:V. Novaseminary (talk) 21:54, 31 August 2010 (UTC)

The intro section may have some general background on the Toy Story franchise, and then mention that Tim Allen, Tom Hanks, etc. have appeared as voice cast members. Then we can add a section for "Characters development" or whatever name, explaining how Pixar people created and animated the characters. Then we can have the list. Characters that can be removed or at least just mentioned in a brief list shall include Andy's toys that did not make it to Toy Story 3 (the shark, Rocky, Bo Beep's sheep, etc.), Sid's toys, Lotso's henchmen (except Ken and Big Baby), etc. All of those characters are background and have little involvement in the plot development. --LoЯd ۞pεth 06:02, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

That seems reasonable to me. I especially support the proposal to discuss how the characters were created and animated (briefly, and with a focus on character creation/design as opposed to general animation). While that could also be mentioned in the movie articles, it seems especially relevant when discussing the characters. Perhaps some mention of where these characters have turned up outside the actual Toy Story movies, videos, games, etc., could also give context, and highlight why discussing the characters as such is worthwhile, and different than what might appear in other articles. What happened?

This page used to be very good in describing all the characters. Now all of the sudden it looks like a new page that needs expanding. Many of the characters like Hamm might not merit there own page but they should at least have a real bio here. JDDJS (talk) 17:18, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

I know about the original research and no references on this page but I feel this situation calls for WP:IAR. JDDJS (talk) 17:24, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

Why? There are plenty of sources to be had (I have added five in the last few days) and plenty of other character pages that follow WP:WAF. Novaseminary (talk) 17:31, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
Because this page used to be a great page but now it's just an embarrassment and an insult to a great film series. JDDJS (talk) 17:33, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

We should at least vote on if we should restore it back to what it was, or leave as is. JDDJS (talk) 18:55, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

We don't vote on this sort of thing on WP. We operate on consensus. Feel free to follow WP:RFC or some other dispute resolution process. But I suspect that you will need more than "this page used to be a great page but now it's just an embarrassment and an insult" to convince anybody that policies and guidelines should not apply. Your efforts might be better spent adding sources and relevant text (supported by the sources) to the article. Novaseminary (talk) 19:02, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
It sounds like an earlier revision of this article had excessive in-universe information about the franchise's characters. We write about fictional topics from a real-world context, so on Wikipedia, we do not discuss characters' in-universe lives at length. There is surely real-world context about the major characters, and it is probably less the case with minor characters. Wikias are alternatives where people can write in-universe detail at length; for example, there is a Pixar Wikia listing articles for various Toy Story characters here. Erik (talk | contribs) 19:40, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
I don't get what you are saying. There many articles about the fictional lives of characters. Also the point I am making is that even if the old page isn't good enough, this page is just unacceptable. It has useless comments that only consist of sentence long. It doesn't even have the voice actors. JDDJS (talk) 19:47, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

As I noted in the section above, the tone of the old version (and this version, too) needed to be less third-grade book report and more neutral and businesslike (WP:TONE). Don't get me wrong. The current version is lousy, too. But it should allow the article to grow according to policy. The old version sat tagged for over a year. As for the voice actors, there is nothing wrong with inserting that information. Just source it. Novaseminary (talk) 19:56, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

JDDJS, if there are articles about fictional characters that are written like biographies, they need to be fixed. When we write about a fictional character, we write from an out-of-universe perspective. For example, Jason Voorhees is discussed with an "appeared in" tone, not a "was born in" tone. Erik (talk | contribs) 20:15, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
I've might have been exaggerating they are written like biographies, but take a look at most articles about fictional characters. They usually explain their history and events that have happened to them. That is what I want to be included here. Not everything of course, but just the main things that directly involve the character. There should also a brief mention about their personality or characteristics. JDDJS (talk) 20:21, 1 September 2010 (UTC)
I think we're on the same page here. It is not a problem to have a summary of a fictional character's in-universe history because it serves as context. WP:PLOT indicates this for fictional works in general; a plot summary is appropriate for discussing the real-world aspects of it. Here, though, if we had histories for each Toy Story character, what context are they serving? Characters of Smallville is an example of where in-universe history is included to help real-world context about a given character. Erik (talk | contribs) 20:43, 1 September 2010 (UTC)

I just want to know, why was the order changed? It does not make sense to put them in alphabetical order. Just like in the article that was mention above, they should be listed based on their role in the series. The characters who play a big role should be first, while the smaller characters should be lower. JDDJS (talk) 01:16, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

And by the way, here is a featured list that has characters history List of Naruto characters. JDDJS (talk) 01:20, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

By listing them in other ways, you might run in to WP:OR problems, so I tagged it for possible alphabetizing but suggested there might be a better way and another editor did it. Per Wikipedia:List#List_articles, list articles "can be organized alphabetically, by subject classification or by topics in a flat or hierarchical structure." Right now they are not alphabetical in the first cut. Rather, they are grouped as toys and humans. I would propose instead listing them in alphabetically order within the following categories: 1) Main characters (probably only a handful, maybe only the ones with their own articles); 2) Supporting characters, further grouped by the movie in which they first appear. Any characters not at least playing a supporting role in the plot should almost certainly not get more than a listing (perhaps as a third "minor character" section") or should be deleted as suggested by Lord Opeth in the section above this. Bot edits

I am sorry but the bot asked for citations in unnecessary places. You don't need a citation that Mrs. Potato Head is Mr. Potato Head's wife. That is just obvious. JDDJS (talk) 18:26, 2 September 2010 (UTC)

Reverted again.

This article appears to have been reverted back to its original form (with all the in-universe info, etc.) which after looking back through history it has been done multiple times. It appears as though the user who reverted it has done similar edits before (such as on List of The Nightmare Before Christmas characters). Maybe this could be checked on over again.

I have also removed this statement:

"Zurg will appear in the upcoming live-action and animated film Mickey's House of Villains 2 in 2012 when the villains is returns from Jafar to take over House of Mouse Again to as in the Halloween Night"

It appears to be an obvious crystal ball as it is unsourced, poorly written and looks 2 years into the future. The user who inserted this has also done similar edits before (such as inserting some unneccessary categories on many Disney related articles). trainfan01 18:53, September 6, 2010 (UTC)

  • I saw that, but didn't feel the urge to keep fighting a one-editor losing battle against IPs that love cruft. Novaseminary (talk) 20:24, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
