Memorable characters[edit]

In response to a recent edit and edit summary note:

I agree that this is supposed to be a "repository" of all Brady Bunch characters. However, all too often I see very minor characters and fancruft-type trivia added to these types of pages (e.g., a character who has one line and appears for 10 seconds, and is not heard from again). The page would become impossibly long and full of ... well, you know what.

As I envision this page, I see it as just a page for the regular characters and the most memorable one-timers (e.g., Rachel, Buddy Hinton, etc.). [[Briguy52748 16:21, 28 July 2006 (UTC)]][reply]

Other characters deleted articles.[edit]

I went ahead and added/reconciled the information from the deleted articles "Alice Nelson" and "Cousin Oliver" (both articles are now redirects here), including trivia. If there is a better way to do it, please fix, but it seems like some good info. was lost, so I just put it back here. Wavy G 08:34, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cousin Oliver[edit]

Ok, I'm not clear on the surnames here. Carol's maiden name was Tyler, then she married Mr. Martin. Cousin Oliver's last name is Martin. How does that make him Carol's, brother's child? If so, his last name should be Tyler. I sort of remember them saying his last name was Martin... is this just a mistake? Hyphenated names[edit]

Carol never went by a hyphenated or multiple last name, so that has been altered. If there is no verifiable or canonical evidence that Alice, Marcia or Jan ever actually used hyphenated names, those entries should be altered as well.--Njsustain (talk) 11:50, 12 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jeopardy hoax[edit]

Every so often someone tries to insert a trivia bit about a question on the TV game show Jeopardy asking which Brady Bunch character was the oldest virgin. This never happened. On no occasion has an editor provided a verifiable reference for this item, meaning that each time it's added, the editor is violating WP:V. Indeed, a check of J-archive.com [1] has every question asked during the 2004 Tournament of Champions, and the alleged Brady Bunch question isn't there. Furthermore, as a former Jeopardy champion and student of the show, I can attest that J would never ask such a question, as (1) the correct answer is not verifiable, because the Brady Bunch characters' sexual histories are never revealed, and (2) J is a family show and would never ask about the sexual history of characters on another family show. The content should always be removed until an editor can provide a source asserting its veracity.

I and others may claim an exception from WP:3RR by content type, because the item constitutes obvious vandalism when one considers: (1) there is a nearly two-year history of repeated attempts, word-for-word and always from anonymous IPs; (2) the editor who adds the content has never provided a source; (3) there exists a source (linked above) proving that the content is, in fact, a hoax; and (4) after I wrote the above, the editor responded by vandalizing my user page [2] (note the deceptive edit summary) and even rewriting my own words on this talk page. Chinese or Korean?[edit]

(From This Article) The Covingtons briefly separate in A Very Brady Christmas, but reconcile. However, they are unable to conceive their own children and in The Bradys adopt a Korean girl named Patty.

(From the Eve Plumb Article) Plumb's character Jan had marital problems in A Very Brady Christmas, and fertility problems in The Bradys which led to her and her husband Phillip Covington III to adopt a Chinese girl named Patty.

Misquote[edit]

Robbie Rist (Cousin Oliver) is quoted as having said "I hope I don't kill this show, too," when appearing on the Brady Bunch episode of The Weakest Link. This is inaccurate. Semi-protected edit request on 18 January 2014[edit]

The page says that there is nothing known about Carol's previous husband. In "A Very Brady Sequel", Carol states that her first husband was a professor lost on a boat; another character replies that his son Gilligan, was also on the boat. While the movie itself would serve as a source, it is also mentioned here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilligan_%28Gilligan%27s_Island%29

Not done: please provide reliable sources that support the change you want to be made. I think we need a good secondary source for this, if for no other reason so that we can cast it in the proper light. It's clearly a tongue-in-cheek inside joke about The Brady Bunch and Gilligan's Island being developed by the same person. If it were "true", then hopefully Carol had the missing Professor declared legally dead; otherwise, she was still married to him when she married Mike Brady. Marcia,Jan,Cindy never named Brady[edit]

Just because an adoption wasn't mentioned in the scripts doesn't mean the characters weren't adopted. Besides, there are plenty of mentions of the girls' full names ending with Brady (example, Marcia Brady being announced before trying out for head cheerleader in "Greg's Triangle"), and none ending with Martin, that I know of. I would have a go at fixing it, but I'm not even getting consistent results when mousing over the same square multiple times. Weird. Maybe someone who knows what they're doing with the Image Map extension can lend a hand. The positions noted in parentheses after the character names below the grid are correct. Mr. Ed Phillips[edit]

The name of "Mr. Ed Phillips" (if indeed it was so structured in the scripts), architect Mike Brady's boss, suggests itself as an in-joke referencing the title character of the sitcom, Mr. Ed. The central situation on that show was Mr. Ed (a horse) bossing his owner, Wilbur Post (an architect).
