Development[edit]

After User:Thermaland's initiative, I added the working draft for this I've had kicking around for a little while. I hope it conforms to other people's vision of what this article/list should be MURGH disc. 17:59, 2 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Good stuff but I find the decision to call the Mayor by his name questionable. When is it even mentioned? I recently read the entire Franquin run and missed it if it's in there. He is generally known as 'the Mayor'. Thermaland 10:12, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Good point. Coming from a translated Spirou universe I certainly wouldn't know when/if it was introduced, I was just persuaded by the conviction of FrancoPh net-sources, most strongly Franquin.com. I think it would be typical if Franquin never in 20 years needed to use the name Labarbe in any dialogue, but discretely established it into some plaque or billboard. Anyway, we've got "the Count", so "the Mayor" wouldn't bother me none, but I'm curious why the name is so widespread. What's the encyclopedic course?  ;-) MURGH disc. 13:16, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How confusing. His name is not even mentioned on Spirou's official site though. I have changed it to "mayor" but left his name in the paragraph. Thermaland 22:16, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Looks and feels right. Just curious, as a Frenchspeaker, you've trawled the net and found no source reason why some people seem so familiar with this name? MURGH disc. 23:18, 7 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure what you mean. I had honestly never heard the name Gustave Labarde before, but then I am nost really familiar with the post-Franquin albums so perhaps it was revived then. What is your native language, out of curiosity? And what is the mayor known as in that? Thermaland 09:24, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I was only wondering what a distinct google could dig up if I knew nuanced French, from the scholars or forums. My first language was Norwegian, not ususally known for excellence in translation. Growing up I read most of my Spirou in Danish with a far superior BD culture. A few Swedish ones. Except for a very few character names, all got changed, but they were consistent with the mayor title, Borgermesteren/Borgmesteren/Borgmästaren (N/D/S).. MURGH disc. 14:37, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Zantafio[edit]

Well, I can't say I agree with that removal, nor the argument for it. The section wasn't particularly big, and it could stand some copyedit at any rate. MURGH disc. 03:03, 8 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Franquin-seccotine2.jpg[edit]

Image:Franquin-seccotine2.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 08:58, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The rationale has been added. Murghdisc. 09:25, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Revert to article[edit]

I boldly moved back the bulk of the text from the previous placement in Characters in Spirou et Fantasio for a couple of reasons. The material is of a size that justifies its own article, it has at least one interwiki, and at the previous location, the text was considered to be simply entries to a list, and therefore not acceptable for image illustration under WP:FAIRUSE.
