Untitled[edit]

This is a new article. Much work remains. Consider comments on the history of the song and why it's notable.

I think this article is notable because there is a similar page for the United States. It's also notable because the song that I like, "We Are Singapore", is difficult to impossible to find on the internet. They said we won't make it..but we did. I like that part.

Can you help expand this article.VK35 05:36, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I have my doubts about the encyclopedic nature of this article as it currently stands. I think it is fine to have an article listing Singapore patriotic songs and preferably having some write-up about their importance (or lack thereof) in Singapore society. But I don't think that there should be an article simply setting out the lyrics of national songs. This may even breach copyright. I quote from "Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not#Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information":

Perhaps, the scope of this article can be expanded to include all the "National Day Songs". In fact, there is a section about it in the article Music of Singapore. Feel free to merge material from there and expand. In schools, every student sings them regardless of citizenship, and not all of them are of the "patriotic" type, in the strict sense. "We Are Singapore" was very popular when it first came out; I'm glad it still is ;D. It's a very creative piece, with the Pledge in it. A listing of the songs, year of introduction, composers, artists would be very interesting, together with some information about its history, evolution, and influence of pop music. For info, the official national day website may have some lyrics, audio files, and music video. --Vsion 20:50, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've reset the rating as NA, due to its current status as a list. If you have plans to make this into an article, feel free to move it to Singaporean patriotic songs and reinstate the relevant assessment. Thanks. - SpLoT // 07:27, 19 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Major expansion of article[edit]

I've done a major expansion of this article (when I should have been doing other things). Do add to it! And if you can figure out why the table under the "Songs with Tamil lyrics" section doesn't display in the same way as the other tables, do fix the problem. "Five Stars Arising"[edit]

Hi, Su Chong, thanks for adding the date of composition of your song "Five Stars Arising". I have to say I had no idea it was composed that long ago! It remains one of my favourite "Singaporean patriotic songs". Do continue contributing to this article if you can. Cheers, Jacklee 06:01, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
