Connecticut teams added[edit]

I added some teams that are based in Connecticut, which like New Jersey is just one state over and is part of the NY metropolitan are, but questionable additions. I also think it would be interesting to have a list of upstate NY teams. - Matthew238 01:58, 13 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed Chart[edit]

Inclusion of Five Star Football League[edit]

Today, Tavix removed the Five Star Football League entry on the basis that the league is non-notable. This may or may not be true (a redlink does not prove non-notability), but in any case in irrelevant as notability doesn't dictate content. This is a list of professional/semi-professional teams in the NYC area and that league is semi-professional. The team in question (Empire State Demon Knights) had been on the list since before the cleanup in 2013 and survived that cleanup. Per WP:BRD I am contesting the removal of the entry and initiating a talk page discussion on the matter. --ThaddeusB (talk) 01:05, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

It shouldn't be included because it is not a notable league in a list where every other league has been determined to be notable. It is the only redlinked league in the entire list. If you think the Five Star Football League is notable, then create the article. However, I don't see how it passes the WP:GNG, or WP:ORG for that matter. This list's requirements are that a league is professional or semi-professional, not that the league be notable. Likely, most semi-professional leagues are not notable (no opinion on this one). See List of American and Canadian football leagues and note that most of the semi-pro leagues are redlinked. There are many red-linked teams on this list (and leagues on the linked list) precisely because notability isn't part of the inclusion criteria. When something is not notable but passes verifiability, quite often the best way to deal with it is as part of a list, and IMO that is the case here. If there are other semi-pro teams in NYC not already on the list, they should be added too. --ThaddeusB (talk) 01:23, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you could add any NYC league that pays its players 10 bucks a game, it would satisfy the "requirements" for this list, but why would you want it to be a part of this list? It isn't notable. That means that it isn't worthy of note. Taking that a step farther, if something isn't worthy of note, why would you note it here? That doesn't make any sense. Again, there is no requirement that list items be notable. If this list wants to be complete it should (and always has) included non-notable teams that fulfill the list requirements of 1)being located in the NYC area and 2)paying their players something. When something is not independently notable, merging the content to a list or other more general article is quiet often a good alternative to deletion... Multiple dead spots[edit]

So I'm not a big editor or anything in that manner, but there are some dead zones in this article. By dead zones, I mean teams that no longer exist but are still on this list. This includes the New York Knights and Connecticut Wildcats under the American National Rugby League, the Brooklyn Knights from USL League Two, and the New York Sharks from the Women's Football Alliance. Go for it. That such minor sports teams might slip through the cracks of updating is understandable, but since you noticed, you're more than free to delete them.
