Create separate, static standings date links for in-season streaks that are not current[edit]

Maybe create a "B" link for the Clippers' standings, since Heat streak updaters keeping forgetting about them, and then sync the dates again after the streaks are all over with. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.3.43.162 (talk) 18:19, 21 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Separate Category for streaks that include playoffs?[edit]

Perhaps a separate category should be used to show winning streaks that include playoff wins. The Spurs currently have won 19 in a row if the playoffs are included. The 2001 Lakers set the record of 19. I am sure there are several others with long streaks. I think another table to show these accomplishments would be warranted. 1906cubs (talk) 03:40, 28 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Playoff only streaks?[edit]

Since the article now includes regular season, and combined regular season/playoff streaks, a logical extension would be to include playoff-only streaks. Johncolton (talk) 19:22, 30 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

SOS for opponents and win margin[edit]

I suggest adding win percentage for opponents during the streak, which shows the difficulty of the streak (i.e. SOS of .431 is less impressive than .512).
Also, adding win margin will be a great indicator for the teams' dominance over opponents.
A great list - thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 109.64.116.76 (talk) 08:42, 15 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Worthy of the list[edit]

I noticed an anon edit restricted the regular season consecutive win list to only the top 20, but is there any consensus on what number of wins is the most relevant? Previously it contained teams with 16+ wins in a row, but does anyone prefer a specific amount of wins worthy of this list? 69.73.10.197 (talk) 17:15, 30 January 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Streaks of 16 games and longer makes more sense for this style of list than "top 20" as the 17-win streak category is are tied among several teams. If the limit was held to a strict "top 20" we'd need to omit the most recent teams to attain 17 wins.
It seems the cutoff of 16-wins or more came about because the editor that created the table wanted to show the top ten places. The article was created on 29 January 2007‎ with the first through 10th ranked win streaks. The 10th rank streak happened to be teams with 16 wins. Below is a table that shows the size of the regular season win streaks table at the end of each season. During the 2009-10 season the table was changed to show 17-win or longer streaks but by the end of the following season it was showing 16-win or longer streaks again.
Season Rows Wins Link
initial 14 16 [1]
2006-07 16 16 [2]
2007-08 16 16 [3]
2008-09 18 16 [4]
2009-10 16 17 [5]
2010-11 22 16 [6]
2011-12 22 16 [7]
2012-13 24 16 [8]
2013-14 25 16 [9]
2014-15 27 16 [10]
Thus it seems we will be adding a couple of new entries per year. That seems like something we can live with for many years before we need to consider changing the cutoff.
This edit is an example of an update to the table that correctly handles the Golden State Warriors streak extending from 17 to 18 games. Reducing the table to show streaks of 17 or more wins would reduce the editor workload. However, these are edits that would only need to be done once a day while a streak is underway. For someone viewing the article, a larger table is better as you can click to sort and see patterns such as which teams have put together more streaks, patterns in the timing, etc. --Marc Kupper|talk 08:21, 21 November 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Update List[edit]

List needs to be updated for Atlanta Hawks 17 game streak in January 2015

Should we include consecutive postseason streaks?[edit]

I added the number of games won in each season as part of as streak for those streaks that spanned seasons to both the regular season and playoffs tables. After adding the data for the playoffs table I realized that two of the spanned streaks also qualify as single postseason streaks. The options that come to mind are:

  1. Do nothing. People viewing the table can readily see the 11 game streaks within a single postseason and can figure out for themselves where those streaks rank in the table.
  2. This is similar to "no nothing" but to add a note explaining the 11 game streaks.
  3. Add additional rows for the two 11 game streaks.
  4. Do not count consecutive postseason streaks and only show streaks attained within a single postseason. This would drop the Detroit Pistons from the table and the order would be:
    • 12: San Antonio Spurs 1998–99
    • 11: Los Angeles Lakers 1988–89
    • 11: Los Angeles Lakers 2000–01
    • 10: New Jersey Nets 2002–03
    • 10: San Antonio Spurs 2011–12
  5. Split it into two tables, one for streaks within a single postseason and another for streaks that span two or more consecutive postseasons.

Shouldn't streaks that include postseason games be included in the regular list as well (just without the postseason games included)?[edit]

It seems confusing to me that I didn't find the Golden State Warriors' current streak in the main list. If I hadn't bothered to scroll down I wouldn't have seen it at all. Geoff Canyon (talk) 04:28, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Gcanyon, I'm puzzled as the the current streak is the third row in the main list. There was a very recent change in that the background color used to be yellow for the current streak and is now a greenish color. Did you miss the greenish row? If so, we likely have a bad choice of color. Here are links to versions of the page in the colors people have tried:
--Marc Kupper|talk 20:10, 4 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Marc Kupper, yeah, apparently I missed it. I wouldn't take one person missing it as an indicator that the color is wrong.
--Geoff Canyon (talk) 16:55, 5 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
An editor switched it back to an easier to see yellow which is fine with me. Once the streak ends the background color will change to blue though I'm also thinking we should also add a separate row in white as the single season streak will also be one of the top streaks. --Marc Kupper|talk 04:17, 6 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Consistency in "Team" column links when streaks extend over more than one season[edit]

Right now, looking at the "Team" column of these tables, clicking on the team name for a given streak will take you to the specific page for that team/year (i.e., clicking on "Los Angeles Lakers" in the second row of the Regular Season table brings you to the page 1971-72 Los Angeles Lakers Season) unless the streak is broken up over more than one season (which makes sense, as it's not obvious which of the team's season pages should be linked to). When the streak is broken up over more than one season, the system here seems to be just linking to the main page for said team (in the 6th row of the table, clicking on Washington Capitols brings you to the main Washington Capitols page), EXCEPT for the two instances where the 2014-15/2015-16 Golden State Warriors streaks show up in the tables (Regular Season and Regular Season/Playoffs). Clicking on Golden State Warriors here breaks you to the page for the 2014-15 Golden State Warriors season. This is inconsistent with the style of the rest of the page, but I think is a lot more useful than the other multi-season streaks defaulting to generic team pages, as it still directs you towards one of the specific seasons in question. If I'm interested in reading about the Milwaukee Bucks 1972-73/1973-74 winning streak, getting sent to the generic Milwaukee Bucks page (which does not mention said streak at any point) is not helpful 100.0.193.38 (talk) at 13:42, April 12, 2016.

Multiple season streaks[edit]

There's an anon user who is insistent on keeping this article restricted to single season win streaks. I see no reason why it's necessary to prevent readers from learning about multiple-season streaks. More information is better -- anyone who cares only about single-season streaks still has all that information in the expanded list. Beyond this, restricting this article to single season win streaks is inconsistent with the sibling article List of National Basketball Association longest losing streaks, as well as the analogous List of Major League Baseball longest winning streaks. How do other editors feel about this? — Myasuda (talk) 00:39, 22 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
