Referencing & Citation?

What exactly does it mean, "referencing and citation criterion not met"? Every entry has a tag referring to the source - or is that not what it is referring to? 2Q (talk) 01:21, 9 March 2009 (UTC)

At the top of the page, this has been added: "This article includes a list of references or external links, but its sources remain unclear because it lacks inline citations. Please improve this article by introducing more precise citations where appropriate." In the first paragraph of the text, it's made rather plain: "All information in this section adapted from "MiG-21" by Yefim Gordon & Keith Dexter[1] unless otherwise noted." This *has* to be a better/nicer way of doing it than putting a ref tag after every sentence on the page... no? In Wikipedia:Citing Sources it says "If a source supports a significant amount of the material in an article, it may sometimes be acceptable to simply add the citation at the end." This is, essentially, what has been done, except at the beginning as well, for extra clarity. 2Q (talk) 05:56, 10 March 2009 (UTC)

Number of MiG-21 operators gradually diminishing

Flight International doesn't seem a reliable source at all concerning this topic, apparently they are listing many aircraft in service that in reality were retired many years ago - meaning in some cases, decades! Angola, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Mali, Sudan, Uganda, Yemen, Zambia all retired the type long ago now, but they are listed as operators. Apparently to the aforementioned source, if there is a 20-30 year old photo of it, it is still flying today. The information should be in sync with the mentioned air forces' wiki pages (many of them also don't seem to be very up to date though, as these countries don't hand out press releases in English about the inventory and status of their aircraft probably).

You are responding to a 2013 comment - so its not surprising that the 2013 Flight International article refers to inventories in service in 2013 and not in 2022.Nigel Ish (talk) 09:50, 10 February 2022 (UTC)
