Are you going to add any movies, because there's heeps to add.[edit]

This page hasn't added a single movie in a while and I kind of got concerned on it and wanted to see if any admins on this page might add every movie that hasn't been added yet.

Semi-protected edit request on 30 September 2021[edit]

This article, https://deadline.com/2021/04/top-gun-maverick-mission-impossible-7-tom-cruise-release-date-change-july-4th-weekend-memorial-day-weekend-1234730581/, has the following three movies that should be added to Draft:List of American films of 2023; the next Star Trek movie will be released on June 9, 2023, Ron Howard's adaptation of The Shrinking of Treehorn will be released on November 10, 2023, and Imaginary Friends will be released on November 17, 2023. Also, the Furiosa movie was moved to 2024. 2601:4A:4201:AF0:2967:2D85:7A43:ED90 (talk) 16:12, 30 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Your request has already been answered. Thanks, Heartmusic678 (talk) 10:31, 2 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I need help adding the films[edit]

Since I’m just one person, I think I need more people to help me put in American films of 2023 since there’s many to be added. Dinoman21 (talk) 10:12, 2 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Lack of Films[edit]

A lot of you are asking whether the other movies will be added or not, but that's what you're here for. You're supposed to find movies with sources and put them into the article, and if you don't have semi-protected clearance, you can make an edit request rather than complaining. I don't see any clear reason for semi-protected clearance on a draft article anyways. Also, don't submit the article till Jan 1, 2022. WikiSilky (talk) 06:49, 6 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

submission[edit]

what if it strikes 12 on jan 1 if im in australia, could i submit it then or wait for everyone to be in 2022? — Preceding unsigned comment added by DinoMan21 (talkcontribs) 11:46, 30 December, 2021 (UTC)

update: i moved it :) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dinoman21 (talkcontribs) 13:57, 31 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Moving page[edit]

Hello, folks,

This page has been moved 10 times so far. Please think twice before moving this page to Draft space again. Draftifying articles should only be done for newly created articles and this one has been around since 2019. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:45, 1 January 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected edit request on 8 June 2022[edit]

Change link for Gareth Edwards in listing for movie True Love on October 6. Currently links to rugby player Gareth Edwards instead of actual director. Hirakula (talk) 16:43, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

2024[edit]

Silly me. There is already a draft of said article (List of American films of 2024). Ryanisgreat4444 (talk) 11:52, 6 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion criteria[edit]

I have been wondering, what is the inclusion criteria? Is it only for American films released theatrically? What about only through streaming services (Netflix, Paramount, Hulu, Prime, Apple, etc)? Or any American film released in 2023, no matter the format? Mike Allen 20:08, 10 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sound of Freedom[edit]

Can Sound of Freedom be added? DougheGojiraMan (talk) 02:27, 8 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Where did the entry for sound of freedom go?

Undoing Vandalism[edit]

The Box Office section is messed up, the totals were changed to worldwide gross. I tried to undo the edits but it's still wrong. I don't have much experience with this so I don't want to mess things up further. 24.29.199.34 (talk) 14:48, 11 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Travis Scott problem[edit]

Copied from User talk:Draco9904:

I don't know exactly how to describe this so I'll just call it the Travis Scott problem.

Look how weird this looks. I knew there would probably be a good reason, but at the time I thought the best option was to get rid of the extra Travis Scott.

Someone looking at this is going to wonder why it looks like that. In this case, would "(star)" work?— Vchimpanzee • talk • contributions • 23:03, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Copied from User talk:Draco9904:

Since every other film is listed in this standard formatting, I don't think there should be much confusion. However, if you'd like, you/I could add an invisible disclaimer that clarifies that he is the star of the film, similar to the disclaimer about A24 being the film's production company, to prevent any unwanted or unverifiable changes. Draco9904 (talk) 23:42, 4 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Vchimpanzee that the entire format is confusing. Why can't these jobs be split into different columns, like at List of French films of 2023, or represented in a single cell but in a much clearer way, like at List of British films of 2023? This is one of most bewildering tables I've come across in quite a while. Orange Suede Sofa (talk) 20:22, 6 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
If there is no defense of this format, then I believe that improvement is merited. Orange Suede Sofa (talk) 04:18, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see any strong opposition, so if you want to improve the table then by all means do so. Mike Allen 14:40, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Inclusion/omission of 'Spider-Man: Lotus'[edit]

Hello!

My edits adding the film Spider-Man: Lotus, released in September 2022, to this list, have been reverted.

I feel that this film belongs on the list; notability guidelines are the same for regular articles and list articles like this, and a discussion on the Spider-Man: Lotus page has been closed in favor of keeping the article. Yes, it is an independent film released on YouTube, but there are no additional set guidelines as to what films belong here.

Thanks,
SaltieChips (talk) 16:57, 13 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

I don't believe it should. It was released on YouTube, not by an official film distributor (as in the filmmaker simply uploaded this film onto YouTube). We can get a consensus/RFC on this here, if needed. IMO, fan films should not be listed in this article. Mike Allen 17:39, 13 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
A little late for this input. I intended to reply before, but forgot. But I concur, that this isn't notable. This is practically the WP:FANCRUFT of filmmaking. --Cinemaniac86Dane_Cook_Hater_Extraordinaire 21:31, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Skater Girl™[edit]

This IP (the latest one) keeps adding an entry for Skater Girl™ directed by Rae Phoenix and starring Ximena Balmori, Michael Holman, Marli Renee. Notice only one blue link. The only information I could find was this Kickstarter page from Rae Phoenix from 2015. The IMDB page says it the film was released in 2021. My question: Is this film notable to be included on this list? The IP is wanting to edit war over this. I feel it's quite promotional in the way the insist it be added. Mike Allen 15:06, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Sk8r Grrl (2021) was listed as having a December 31, 2021 release date. Vague as that may be, as I'm sure it's not wide. Seems like poorly maintained IMDb info. (Sorry, I skimmed too fast to realize you already mentioned the IMDb page, User:MikeAllen. But the theater page below was the more crucial element I wanted to introduce anyhow.)
I also found theater pages for its Black Friday release in Brooklyn (of this year, as IP claims w/ these ~multitude~ of articles), with its title listed as (the IP address that may or may not be Holman suggests) its title is now stylized. --Cinemaniac86Dane_Cook_Hater_Extraordinaire 21:19, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just in case. =) --Cinemaniac86Dane_Cook_Hater_Extraordinaire 21:35, 21 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Being released in a theater or two, does not make it pass WP:NF. Mike Allen 22:28, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Draco9904: you are one of the main contributors to this page. What are your thoughts on the inclusion of this film on the page. Mike Allen 22:27, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I Googled this film the other day, but mainly found results on the 2021 Netflix film Skater Girl. I did find eventually find it on IMDB under Sk8ter Girl, after searching up the director. Other than that, I couldn't find any other valid legitimate sources from any significant trades about this film. The reference source currently up isn't really legitimate enough for me. Personally, if it were up to me, I wouldn't include it. I'll leave it up to you, Mike, to make the ultimate decision. Draco9904 (talk) 22:58, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed the entry more than once and invited the anonymous user to discuss here. They rather edit war and write promotional sounding edit summaries. This is an obscure film, so I mean who is really pushing for this film to get on this list... Mike Allen 23:23, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Right, exactly. I'm not championing it, by any means. It is a minute underground student film that they're promoting. That Brooklyn theater page was literally the only thing I could find. And it's a limited engagement, with Q&A, not a limited or even full release. Therefore, that doesn't qualify as a "release", per se. But in the "IP"'s mind, it does.
Idk who it is. I figured it was the Holman guy, because they kept emphasizing him as "noted avant garde indie whatever" actor. But with all this fuss, they don't use the talk page. They don't create an account to try to submit an article. And they don't comprehend that vague mentions of sources—not going to qualify. Where are they? Submit them all.
They probably enjoy the edit warring, honestly. Any publicity is good publicity! Edit warring draws attention. Now a few dozen (maybe) people are like "what is this movie". And they'll go watch it.......On Netflix. That Skater Girl. Whoopsy! --Cinemaniac86Dane_Cook_Hater_Extraordinaire 01:23, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Silly to ask, but have you guys ever seen Mary Poppins? @Draco9904: @MikeAllen:
Every time one of the new IPs drop by to "re-instate" the film, this is my immediate thought. --Cinemaniac86Dane_Cook_Hater_Extraordinaire 19:05, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's ridiculous. They will not even discuss on this talk page and now making legal threats. I requested page protection. Sigh. Mike Allen 19:15, 24 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that was cute. If they can afford those legal threats, they ought to be able to hire better distributors that could provide them with a limited release, and then we wouldn't be in this mess in the first place. =)
Good deal. Page protection was inevitable. They must be blatantly ignoring/disinterested in it, or their crusade (in their mindful quest) is to get this on the calendar for the promotional aspect. Now let's see if sockpuppet accounts emerge. Oh, my! --Cinemaniac86Dane_Cook_Hater_Extraordinaire 00:52, 25 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Worldwide Gross[edit]

Can we include a 2nd table at the top that ranks them by worldwide gross. Thats the way it used to be before the "year in film" became separated by American, Chinese, etc 68.225.129.161 (talk) 21:33, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
