Category of the school[edit]

Time for discussion here. This site, my school [class of 1952] has a site that has been the target of jokes, vandalism, so on. But the base of this message is: LA is not a private school, hence I have taken it off the category 'Private Schools in Maine'. It is not officially a high school, I have taken it off the category 'High Schools in Maine'. So what category?? -- —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dumarest (talk • contribs).

I'm inclined to say it is indeed a high school since it's a secondary school and they're about equivalent. To quote the Lincoln Academy web site: Lincoln Academy is an independent secondary school chartered in 1801 to serve as the public high school... If it's a secondary school acting as a high school, then I'd say it's probably best categorized as a high school --Matt 15:52, 14 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

With the new Maine indication of school consolidation, it is more important than ever NOT to just make this a high school. It is an independent school, which in fact takes all students in the 8-12 school years from a part of Lincoln County. Originally it was the 'acting' high school for Damariscotta and Newcastle, but now for all of the local School Union. But still, not just a 'high school' - the state recognizes its difference, and it is outside the consolidation moves under way. --Dumarest 15:24, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cheverus High School doesn't even have to meet state guidelines for how many days a year students go there, and it's still classified as a high school. The "slang" term for Secondary School in America is "High School". Being categorized as a high school doesn't make it "just another high school" - the notability should come from the article, not from the categorization. --Matt 15:27, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ok, so a new category would work. From the definitions of high school I see (Wiktionary, Wikipedia, Merriam Webster) Lincoln Academy clearly qualified as a high school. Yes, Linoln Academy is independent but not private, but none of the definitions of high school I can find imply a high school must be public. Boarding schools can be high schools. Public schools can be high schools. Parochial schools can be high schools. --Matt 16:00, 22 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Need source for "town academy" term[edit]

(User talk:Jennymartin220talk) I feel it's necessary to give a citation/source for your use of the term "town academy". I'm not exactly sure what this term means other than a synonym for private school, or a school that resides in a town? I tried researching it and found nothing. You are not obliged to, but if there is no reliable source for this term, remove it.

I ask this because the term is not commonly used to describe a private school and may leave readers confused. Furthermore, the term alters the neutrality of this article making it more biased.

Malicious and False Info Removal discussion[edit]

Hello, Talk: Danski454

At first, I thought I made malicious and incorrect edits, but then looking closer, I realized you were siting the deleted edits as "vandalism" The edits, Financial Issues and 2018 Enrollment Decline were removed. Just to be clear, I made these edits in good-faith and I did not intend to attack the institution with any false or incorrect information. The information in the edits were from credible local new sources and I did my best writing in a respectable manner as not to make any malicious edits. I hope you reconsider the removal of these edits, at least 2018 Enrollment Decline as they were factual and they were simply information from the local news source, Lincoln County News.

Here are some examples that give me reason to believe inappropriate deletion of edits have occurred.

"Dedicates William A. Clark Field During Homecoming" This was removed and was considered false even though the source was given. (source: http://www.lincolnacademy.org/2015/10/lincoln-academy-dedicates-william-a-clark-field-during-homecoming)

Example 2: Financial Issues:

All the information in this section was purely backed up by articles from Lincoln County News. The Lincoln Academy budget was reported to be in a $10 million debt over the course of 5 years. This was stated in the news article.

Example 3: Enrollment Decline

Lastly, you, yourself, reverted all of these edits saying it was "vandalism". Then a user page under the name Fini Opus, reverted your reverted edits! I have reason to believe the school itself has gone in to remove these edits.

Please consider the severity and inappropriateness of the removal of two sections information,
