Park name[edit]

It may seem odd to call the protected area Lewis and Clark National and State Historical Parks rather than Lewis and Clark National Historical Park, but this seems to be how the managers are presenting it to the public. I know technically the legislation called it the latter. However, the "National and State" usage is consistent with a prior example: "Redwood National Park" within Redwood National and State Parks. — Eoghanacht ^talk 13:11, 6 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

NRHP[edit]

Documents show that Fort Clatsop National Memorial, the predecessor or the park, was listed on October 15, 1966. See the Oregon National Register List and Book 2 of the National Register of Historic Places, page 7569. It appears that the area was re-registered, on October 13, 1988, as Fort Clatsop and Salt Works. See this Registration Form. I found this much more modern set of reports about the park from the NPS while repairing a citation for missing a url. I am leaving this here in the hopes that a future editor finds it as useful as it looks to be.

Lewis and Clark National and State Historical Parks → Lewis and Clark National Historical Park – This page was boldly moved to its present name in 2005 to yield a more inclusive title. However, this page should have the official National Park Service name, as this is the primary topic of the article, consistent with WP:COMMONNAME. The state parks are only loosely affiliated with the NPS site and charge separate admission fees. The state parks are also not "state historical parks" as the current name suggests. The Washington state parks each have their own articles (Cape Disappointment State Park and Fort Columbia State Park. For the Oregon state parks, Fort Stevens State Park redirects to Fort Stevens (Oregon), while Ecola State Park does redirect to this page, but really merits its own article given its notability as a filming location. Thus, this page should be about the NPS entity with brief descriptions of and links to these other sites. A Google search under the current name returns the proposed name in Google Maps and the NPS official site as the top hit. Mdewman6 (talk) 20:06, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Huh, most of Cape Disappointment State Park is actually federally owned but operated by WA State Parks – Not quite accurate to say this one's only loosely affiliated since the law explicitly mentions it, but Fort Columbia, Fort Stevens, and Ecola are less clear. On the NHP's map page, the park tile map only has the federally owned lands, but the brochure map colors the federal and state areas the same. Reywas92^Talk 01:11, 27 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
