Structure and name confusion[edit]

Among the refs and the database entries, some refer to "leptosperin" and others to "leptosin". User:Adeuss who created this page at Leptosperin also created Leptosin as a redirect to it, so are they synonyms? But some of the refs/databases have a monoglycosyl benzofuranone structure and others diglycosyl (gentiobiosyl) syringate for the same name. I don't know anything about this (these) compounds specifically, but this contradictory info needs to be resolved. DMacks (talk) 04:50, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

As drawn in the lit/databases (which is extra annoying that they use different styles):

Glycosyl/benzofuranone structure
Gentiobiosyl/syringate structure

Well I added the chembox, with info based on the IUPAC name given which matches the PubChem entry named "Leptosin" which is a monoglycosyl derivative. I will check to see if this page should be renamed. (or if it should just be deleted). Graeme Bartlett (talk) 08:20, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

OK looking at the discovery paper, the true substance for Leptosin is methyl syringate 4-O-β-d-gentiobiose[1]. But they invent the name Leptosin. [2] says that the two names are the same, "novel glycoside, leptosperin (leptosin), from manuka honey" -- 4 years later. [3] also confirms the name leptosperin for methyl syringate 4-O-β-D-gentiobiose.

Looking further, the name "leptosin" had prior use[4] for an aurone, so that is where pubchem got the name and structure, and presumably, where our original writer got the IUPAC name. So the Manuka honey writer, Kato, had to chose a new name. So Leptosin and leptosperin are really two different things. So I say remove the redirect (can be an article too but on different topic) and remove the chembox until real leptosperin data is available. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:02, 14 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
