Talk:Leon MacLaren

This article includes hagiography or grandiose and delusional claims in several places, such as the below example:

"Leon MacLaren is described as one of three men responsible for meditation being practised so widely in the west due to his early adoption of the practice and propagation of it globally via the School of Economic Science, the other two men being Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and Dr Francis C. Roles of The Study Society."

This article appears to be actively manipulated to suppress information critical of Leon Maclaren such that he started a controversial new religious movement, organisations of which have been publically accused of deception relating to disguising its religious courses as mainstream philosophy courses. Primary schools associated with this new religious movement, or "philosophy" if we are to use their preferred terminology, were found by an independent inquiry to have had staff criminally assault very young children. Male staff, including senior staff and a principal, of the girls senior school associated with the new religious movement Maclaren founded have also been publically accused of historically marrying much younger 18 year old fresh graduates of the girls school they taught or had authority for.

Not orphaned[edit]

This page is now diff well linked in with other articles. There needs to be more material added to the page and suggestions as to reliable sources is welcomed. It may need to become semi protected if vandalism continues. Wikidās ॐ 07:51, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There are several significant factual errors in the quoted references. For a start, Leon MacLaren founded SES, not Andrew MacLaren. This is described on [1] which accords with sparse details available in the contemporary publication Land and Liberty (1931 through 1942), as well as the biographies of Andrew Maclaren and Leon MacLaren. References will follow when the main article is corrected.wikirpg (talk) 20:30, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

External Links[edit]

Wiki guidelines limits External Links to one or two that are primary to the subject. Therefore I will be removing links that do not conform to Wiki guidelines [WP:EL] --Kbob (talk) 20:39, 26 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I am removing today several links that do not conform to Wiki guidelines. Below are listed my reasons. If any editors disagree I am happy to discuss and re-add the links if they are found to be within the guidelines. Generally speaking all of the links were removed because they were about SES and not about the subject of the article. However, some of these links could be used as inline citations where appropriate.--Kbob (talk) 19:18, 2 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The link I would rather see restored is History of SES origins. There is some contemporary (~1937-8) evidence that Leon MacLaren and not Andrew MacLaren founded SES. This is expressed in both biographies of Andrew MacLaren, the biography of Leon MacLaren, and in various copies of Land and Liberty. This link appears to be the most accurate account of the origin of SES, but it clashes with some more recent accounts such as reference 6 "Exploring New Religions". I hope to introduce suitable corrections as soon as final references have been established.wikirpg (talk) 08:14, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi wikirpg, thanks for your comments. I think you know the subject better than I. The 3 general requirements for External Links according to Wiki policy is: minimal, meritable and relevant. So please adjust the links as you see fit, keeping these guidelines in mind. Cheers! --Kbob (talk) 19:38, 4 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Great wikirpg, I think we have struck a good balance on the External Links, thanks for the help! --Kbob (talk) 12:01, 5 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Parking content on SES[edit]

This content (below) is not about McClaren (see: WP:COATRACK) but I'm storing it here in case someone starts an article on the SES

  • The SES became controversial after the publication of the book Secret Cult by Peter Hounam.[1] In 1994 the SES was listed on a survey conducted by the Family Action Information Resource Review concerning New Religious Movements.[2] The SES was referred to in the Synod Report, confirming that the Church of England considers dual membership impossible, even when organizations said to be a new religious movements, present themselves as philosophies.[3] It is difficult to obtain the syllabus taught by the School of Economic Science[4]

    • Never mind I'm moving it to the talk page for the SES article.--KeithbobTalk 19:54, 4 March 2013 (UTC)[reply]
