Untitled[edit]

Review[edit]

This is not a great article. The main problem with it is that there are not footnotes to the sources bellow so the reader does not know what source each fact comes from. In addition, the article often says "some scholars" instead of being more specific. Also there are less than 10 sources sited, and I feel like the article would be a lot better if there were more. The article seems neutral but does not have enough concrete facts to back up the claims. In addition the author brings up "research" in a very general way and does not specify what research or by whom and when. Thoughts About the Article[edit]

I have learned about Lefkandi in my Greek Arts and Archaeology class and I liked how the article has the main idea of the burials of a man and woman. It even goes on to describe in detail what grave goods they had accompanying them. What I didn't like about this is that there is no citation to be seen through this big chunk of information given. Also as someone previously said there are very little resources sited that would provide evidence where this information came from. Lastly, another thing that I liked is that it provided both sides of the argument scholars were inferring about the relationship between the man and the woman. Review & Suggestions for Improvements[edit]

This article is a decent start, but leaves a lot of room for improvement. This article could use expanding in most regards, firstly Lefkandi's survival of the Late Bronze Age collapse, through the Iron Age/Greek Dark Age, and into the early Archaic Period should be stressed more heavily. We have very few sites that remained almost continuously inhabited within that time frame and that makes Lefkandi exceptional. Furthermore, the relative wealth of the grave goods and other artifacts found at the site speak to an affluence and relatively strong trading network rarely seen in the Greek Iron Age.

While the discussion of the "Heroon" is probably the strongest part of the article, it should be noted that the structure bears little resemblance to the vast majority of heroon examples found by archaeology. A stronger arguement could be made for the structure being a toumba burial mound, as those structures were not only more common in the Iron Age, but this building has far more in common with other toumba sites, namely it was demolished and buried. A suggestion.[edit]

While Toumbas are mentioned in the introductory section, the article does not explain what a Toumba is, or tell the reader that the Heroon burial site is an example of a Toumba. I believe it could be helpful to readers if this article linked to to the wikipedia page on Toumba, and clarified in the section on Heroon that it is indeed a Toumba and why.
