Spelling of Name[edit]

I just changed one "Graff" to "Graaf" thinking it was a typo. Now I see that it's spelled "Graff" throughout the article. Someone more knowledgeable on the subject should make a decision on consistent spelling of the name. Iglew (talk) 22:17, 27 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

He was Dutch (Graaf) but in the service of the French (Graff). Further complicating the matter is his mixed-race ancestry which in Spanish might have been described as El Griffe. It's likely his name wasn't written down all that much so when it was, the differing styles of each language rendered it differently. All should probably be changed to Graaf to suit the title given it is probably "more right" than the other. Stlwart111 06:54, 20 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Marley uses "Graaf" and he is extremely thorough. I exchanged emails with him on the spelling of another pirate's name (which he spells differently from everyone else) and came away convinced that he was right.RicardoJuanCarlos 13:48, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

Portrait is bogus[edit]

I question the authenticity of this image. It appears to be a composite of two pictures. The base image is a painting of Stanislas Augustus Poniatowski, by Louise-Elisabeth Vigée-Lebrun from the Kiev Museum of Western Art.
