Laura Epps' sisters[edit]

What is the source for saying that one of Laura's sisters married Rowland Hill? This cannot be the famous Sir Rowland Hill who invented the postage stamp as he married a Caroline Pearson. There are many other people called Rowland Hill but he is the only one that can reasonably be referred to without qualification as he is much the best known. A genealogy of Laura's father, George Napoleon Epps, (https://www.ancestry.com/genealogy/records/george-napoleon-epps-24-8xk2m) shows five daughters: Ellen, Laura, Emily, Louise and Amy. But only Ellen and Laura are shown with a married name (Gosse and Alma Tadema). A different genealogy (https://www.geni.com/people/George-Epps/6000000014531705126) doesn't list Louise or Amy at all but also shows no married name for Emily. The description of the Epps family group portrait shows Amy and implies that she married Chales Pratt, a wine merchant. It then refers to 'Rowland Hill', married to Louisa, and says of him "The full-length figure of Rowland was painted out - probably because of a financial scandal that caused him and his wife to flee to Argentina in 1871". This is amplified at https://www.sueyounghistories.com/2009-03-02-edwin-chadwick-rowland-hill-1795-1879/. I shall therefore edit the main article to clarify that this was not the well known Rowland Hill. BevRowe BevRowe (talk) 17:21, 29 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
