Open sourcing is not criticism[edit]

The fact that Launchpad is planning to become open source is not criticism, and should be moved out of that category. There's also no reason to say that Launchpad had set a date for open sourcing, and later on in the paragraph mention that it was changed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Darkwind6000 (talkcontribs) 22:56, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Release[edit]

Can somebody elaborate more on why it will take "potentially years" to release Launchpad as free software? Also, there was some intense debate going on about Launchpad at this closed thread on Ubuntu forums, and I'm curious if people would like to present the two sides of the story in the article to summarize the debate. Maybe I will start some... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.212.67.181 (talkcontribs)

  • That was there because it was in the official faq. You're probably better off asking around the launchpad community. Try the launchpad-users mailing list at http://lists.ubuntu.com —Preceding unsigned comment added by dsas (talkcontribs)

The tone of this is wrong - it reads like an official document. Secretlondon 12:19, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism section[edit]

I find the criticism section oversized. It may be an issue but this article makes the impression that it is the most important thing to say about Launchpad. Besides, it is typical for project management sites to be closed source, even if they support open source. So, I will prune this section and merge it with the following one about releasing parts of it as open source. Please discuss this here. – Torsten Bronger (talk) 18:58, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Besides, even if Launchpad was open source, it's source could still be kept secret, because Launchpad (as a product) is not distributed (ASP loophole). Azrael Nightwalker (talk) 12:57, 1 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
That section is biased as hell, unproperly sourced, and looks like it was edited by someone extremely biased against launchpad, I think it should be fixed or removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.241.122.222 (talk) 07:02, 3 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ubuntu specific?[edit]

Does Launchpad support just providing PPAs or can you host any kind of binaries there? I'm trying to find out if you can use Launchpad for all Linux distros or even for other platforms and not just Ubuntu? Yfrwlf (talk) 21:27, 11 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

According to the current version of the page, a number of non-Ubuntu projects use LaunchPad, including Linux Mint. Danylstrype (talk) 13:28, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Transition to free software[edit]

This section is quite repetitive, and potentially a bit out of date. To meet Wikipedia standards, it really needs to be pruned down so that it contains only the critical information in secondary sources. I don't have time to get into it now, but I'll try to remember to come back to it if nobody else has time to do it first. Danylstrype (talk) 13:26, 1 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
