Political views[edit]

I've changed the wording such that the implication of Faircloth's statement that he wanted to be the conservative NC senator is that he holds far right views rather than that he has "racist proclivities" as originally written. The latter might well be true (personally I would be somewhat shocked if it were not) but it's a highly incendiary claim to make without any sourcing so I don't think it has a place in wikipedia until sources are provided. It is safe to say that Faircloth's line about his desire to be known as more conservative than Helms puts him on the far right end of the political spectrum, but it may or may not make him racist (there are any number of ways you might "out-reactionary" Jesse Helms or anyone else--being even more overtly racist than him is just one possibility). The Jesse Helms article has a whole "controversies" section which quite convincingly details the former Senator's "racist proclivities," and I think if we want to use that term with reference to Faircloth something similar should probably happen here. Once some sourced information is added that proves the point I would have no problem with the article describing Faircloth's racist leanings. Until then it's best to keep it out.

I think the best thing to do in terms of expanding this article would be to detail Faircloth's general political views on several key issues in order to better locate him on the political spectrum, and furthermore to add details about any racial comments he has made and/or positions he took on issues which reveal his racial attitudes.--Bigtimepeace 19:09, 23 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
