Untitled[edit]

This article is about an important figure in the new freak folk movement. Her albums are very well received. I believe 100% that an article should be featured about her work. Samantha555 (talk) 03:15, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, but she does not meet Wikipedia standards for notability of musicians. It's as simple as that. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 02:13, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article meets the standards with this statement: "Is frequently covered in publications devoted to a notable sub-culture." Look at the links, she is featured in several interviews, and if you type up her name on google you get 51,700 results. Samantha555 (talk) 03:15, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You have only provided one link to an interview. That's not "several." On my Google search I got considerably fewer links, and only about 200 or so that were relevant. I'm still not convinced. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 03:17, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you go to http://www.secreteye.org/se/larkingrimm.html you will find the following information, that notes her importance in the music scene: "This year Larkin has mesmerized audiences across Europe with a snowballing troupe of fans following her from town to town and at the Terrastock 6 festival in Providence where she has been noted as a festival highlight by almost blogging 'Scopehead on the planet. Larkin has shared bills with Devendra Banhart, Spires that in the Sunset Rise, Espers, Mi and L'au and Brightblack Morning Light. Nomadic by nature, she'll be touring around the US and Europe for the forseable future, continuing to win converts everywhere she goes." Samantha555 (talk) 04:16, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Also on her official website you will find this: "Larkin was previously a member of the Dirty Projectors (Western Vinyl) where she astounded audiences with her mesmerizing voice. She has also played shows with folks such as Entrance, the Microphones, Viking Moses, Old Time Relijun and her brother Joe Grimm's project the Wind Up Bird. Larkin Grimm is a very special artist and Harpoon is a truly magical recording." Samantha555 (talk) 04:18, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Those source are not considered reliable because the sites are controlled either by Grimm herself or by her label - in other words, those who stand to benefit from material that praises her. You wouldn't likely find anything critical about her on either site. Wikipedia demands references from independent, reliable sources to determine the notability of a subject. We can't just go by what she says, what her label says, or what her PR flack says. So those references are of little use to us. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 07:20, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Then how can I make it so this article is left alone? I worked hard on compiling the information for this article, and she has just as much right to be on Wikipedia as Colleen, Lau Nau, and Josephine Foster. I will add information to the article if need be, just tell me how to get past this. Samantha555 (talk) 07:31, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

She is also featured on AllMusic: http://allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&searchlink=LARKIN%7CGRIMM&sql=11:kxfwxqqsldte~T0 And here are two reviews on her work, in the middle of the page, about the seventh and eigth review down: http://psychedelicfolk.homestead.com/acidfolkreview13.html There are many more reviews on the internet on her work, that I would gladly provide if needed. Read and follow WP:MUSIC to show the person's notability, else the article will be removed. -- Alexf42 11:56, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for removing the tag! It is much appreciated! Samantha555 (talk) 19:23, 14 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I Give Up[edit]

It is obvious you are determined to have this article deleted, Realkyhick. Please read PhilKnight's comment. He deleted the deletion tag. It should now be settled. I don't know what is going on. But if there is nothing else I can do, delete it. This is making me anxiety-ridden. Samantha555 (talk) 01:54, 16 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Keep[edit]

I vote to keep the article, as it maintains, now, multiple sources of notoriety. I know the argument is old, but I'd like to throw in my two cents. Icarus of old (talk) 22:33, 25 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notability Evidence[edit]

It seems that she satisfies three of the notability criteria, while only one is required:

Grimm was featured in a short NY Times editorial at http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/30/arts/music/30play.html, in addition to the other sources noted above. --Flamsmark (talk) 07:03, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Grimm has three albums, all released by reasonably-sized indie labels. --Flamsmark (talk) 07:03, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Grimm was the subject of an hour-long broadcast on WNYC, which has the largest audience in the USA. --Flamsmark (talk) 07:03, 25 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]
