Can anyone help me ?

My father served his National Service in Lancashire Fusiliers from 1953 to 1955. My father unfortunatley died in 2005, but at his funeral service, a cremation, his National Service Medal, beret and Red and White Hackle was placed on his coffin. My father was always very proud of his association with his Regiment, but my memory fails me in remembering the story behind the reason for the Red and White Hackle.

I had an altercation in the pub the other day with someone much older than me, who although never served in the Army in any capacity, but swears blind, that the Lancashire Fusiliers had a yellow hackle at the time that my father served. As you may understand I wasnt too pleased about being shouted down, as my memory of my fathers funeral is still very vivid for me.

I have rung around all my family, who also recall the Red and White Hackle. My father was born in Rochdale and was enlisted at Bury, which I believe is the Regimental HQ of the Lancashire Regiment.

Can anyone shed any light on this matter ??
