Bus service in Lake Grove

I grew up in Lake Grove and relocated away from there in 1960. I know there was regular bus service in the 1950s to Portland because my father often took the bus to his job at the Oregon Journal newspaper downtown (since defunct). But I don't know who ran the busses.

BTW on summer days I often swam at the Lake Grove Swim Park pictured in the story, on Lakeview Boulevard. Local residents had "easement rights" and others were supposedly barred, though I never saw anybody checking. Lake Grove elementary teachers Mr. Potts and Mr. Giffen could often be seen there playing ping pong very impressively! Alas, who remembers them today? Lost even to Wiki.

The Oregonian publishing company had a big boxy building on the waterfront between the Willamette and Harbor Drive. There was Blue Bus lines (Oregon) which ran buses between many of the suburbs and Portland as well as Rose City Transit which ran lines within Portland. TriMet displaced (or absorbed?) all the bus companies.

Access to L.G. swim park was based on whether one lived in the Lake Grove water district which was verified with the address on some I.D. Questionable addresses were looked up on a big map on the back wall of the entrance booth. As kids, we'd just run around the back of it and no one cared; at least part of that probably was the large number of people entering at the same time: adults were closely checked, but kids were assumed to be with the adults (which few were). By the time I was in college, they did care and it was hard to get past them once I officially changed my address from my mom's.

Giffen doesn't ring a bell, but Potts does. Mrs. Anderson was a popular second grade teacher who was near retirement in 1966 and had taught for decades—since before the new building was built (after a big fire) around 1957. Reliable sources for this information could probably be found in old newspapers, but it is quite doubtful there will be archived copies online for the Lake Oswego Review or its predecessor the Oswego Review.
