Safavid empire[edit]

It kind of does not follow that if something existed in the Safavid empire, it existed in every part of it. The information needs to be specific to the territory of Azerbaijan. Grandmaster 19:57, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Grandmaster. Indeed the Safavid dynasty was of Azeri origin, but their state was not centred around what is now Azerbaijan. We can refer to the Safavid period as historical background, only if there is clear evidence that this kind of establishments were functioning on the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan. Parishan (talk) 06:28, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
What kind of evidence is needed? That says it also included the territory Azerbaijan occupies today? That's clearly POV-pushing. The fact that Safavids were of Oghuz Turkic origin and that Azerbaijan was wholly part of their empire, simply means that it also existed in Azerbaijan's territory. When you say that, for example, Russian was a dominating language in the Russian Empire, it also included Erivan, Baku, Tiflis, Elisavetopol and other governorates. There is no need to primitively say that those areas are included. --Yerevanci (talk) 14:28, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Oh yes, there is. So what, if Azerbaijan was part of that empire? Armenia was also part of that empire. How about adding this also to LGBT rights in Armenia?

If it is written somewhere that snokhachestvo was a common practice in the Russian Empire, it does not mean that we are to add that information in articles about every single former part of Russia, like Armenia, or Estonia, or Turkmenistan. The Safavid Empire was essentially a Persianate society and centred around Iran, and what is now Azerbaijan was not its core. The dynasty's origin does not matter either; the Romanovs were of German origin, but snokhachestvo was not a German practice. So this information rather belongs in LGBT rights in Iran, or Homosexuality and Islam, or anywhere, but not here. Parishan (talk) 17:41, 12 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

No Azeri article[edit]

Interesting that there is no equivalent article in the Azeri language Wikipedia. Speaks volumes about social attitudes there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.159.57.19 (talk) 18:47, 27 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
