"He proved that a honeycomb pattern is the most efficient way to pack equal circles in the Euclidean plane"

Is this correct?? Is this not the same as Thue's theorem, proved in 1909?

Shadowsill (talk) 12:13, 25 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

According to the Honeycomb page, it's not correct, and this very man is the one who showed that an alternative design would be .035% more efficient. However, it's not sourced, so who knows. The2crowrox (talk) 05:28, 20 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Major expansion coming[edit]

See User:Bikermacska/sandbox for the draft of a major expansion planned for a week, or so. It is awaiting review from subject matter experts. Please post your comments about the expansion either here or at User talk:Bikermacska/sandbox. User:HopsonRoad 20:59, 3 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Math priority rating[edit]

Just for clarification. The math project prefers the use of the term priority over importance since we are not attempting to rate how important the subject matter is in the field of mathematics (as may be the case in other projects), but rather what priority math editors should put on this when deciding to work on an article. We do things this way (not the norm in WP) since there are so many math articles and so few math editors that some sort of triage is needed. The low priority rating that I've reverted to means that, in my assessment, given the subject matter, the article appears to be in pretty good shape and the math editors need not be overly concerned about it. Of course, this does not stop anyone with an interest from contributing to the page, and I certainly hope that they will. Bill Cherowitzo (talk) 03:40, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for leaving that clarification, Bill. It makes sense. Sincerely, User:HopsonRoad 04:10, 10 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Members of the German Academy of Sciences at Berlin[edit]

@HopsonRoad: The German Wikipedia article says that he was a member of the Berlin academy. Drahtlos (talk) 17:57, 24 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The academy website has a list of members. Fejes Toth is listed as "AM", which the legend gives as "external member." --Eigenbra (talk) 11:38, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Drahtlos and Eigenbra for this information. I'll revert myself, if it's not already done and add the information to the article. Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 13:33, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Drahtlos and Eigenbra: The website that you cite says. "MITGLIEDER DER VORGÄNGERAKADEMIEN". Perhaps he is on the list because the Braunschweigische Wissenschaftlische Gesellschaft would be considered a Vorgängerakademie? It's not mentioned in the overview of historical members of predecessor academies. If not that, what would be the predecessor academy? Cheers, HopsonRoad (talk) 13:53, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have added it to the article as: Akademie der Wissenschaften der DDR,[1]
@Drathlos and HopsonRoad: Since the list of members lists him as a member until 1992, my best guess is he was in the AdW until it was dissolved that year. I noticed that the category page lists him erroneously under T instead of F. Any idea why? --Eigenbra (talk) 21:41, 25 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I fixed that problem with: {{DEFAULTSORT:Toth, Laszlo Fejes}} => {{DEFAULTSORT:Fejes Toth, Laszlo}} HopsonRoad (talk) 01:15, 26 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
