"Madrigal Comedy"[edit]

The first edition is available on Google Books, and nothing about it looks like it was intended as a madrigal. https://books.google.com/books?id=6xG4GmX-o0YC&pg=PA1&dq=l%27amfiparnaso&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwiTq_b2oIuAAxWzg4kEHUp7CMYQ6AF6BAgHEAI#v=onepage&q=l'amfiparnaso&f=false The settings of the music in madrigal style appear to be later? 2601:8C3:8587:4B80:ACA2:37C5:A516:791B (talk) 08:27, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's not a "madrigal", it's a madrigal comedy. L'amfiparnaso is the first of the genre that attempted to create a unified whole rather than just a collection of madrigals. Alfred Einstein is the probable inventor of the term, which derives from the introduction to this very work - "comedia musicale". Antandrus (talk) 15:06, 13 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The issue is the music doesn’t indicate anything was intended for madrigal style. It’s published as solos. 2601:8C3:8587:4B80:A499:6040:AD10:51AC (talk) 23:30, 25 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Solos? It's for five voices. What do you mean "madrigal style"? Five people sing. Remember they didn't always publish in "score" in the 16th century - they often just published the individual parts. Antandrus (talk) 00:44, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I added a reference to Vecchi's article in the New Grove. Antandrus (talk) 00:50, 26 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
