Help with Editing[edit]

My name is Dean Kwon and I am the son of Tae Man Kwon. We have been trying to update his page for a long time now. We would like to post a picture or two up along with add some information. I spoke with you, Mateo, a while back about changing some things and I appreciated your kind response. I have been trying to learn how to upload pictures through the tutorial but it seems to be pretty difficult. I was hoping that someone that knows how to upload could do it more easily. I can send you the pictures to be uploaded. Please let me know if anyone can help with this. Thank you! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Deankwon (talkcontribs) 07:53, 12 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Revision and request for info check[edit]

It was recently written:

"Kwon Tae-man started his martial arts training in 1956. He initially studied Taekwondo for three years, but found that that he was not ideally suited to this art due to his physical characteristics. He began to look for other forms of the martial arts to satisfy his specific needs. With this, at the age of nine, he began his study of hapkido."

I changed the wording here because I felt it an odd to describe a 6-8 year old boy as analyzing matters and having the freedom to seek out 'other martial arts forms of the martial arts to satisfy his specific needs'. Clearly at this age his parents would have been in charge. But it seems the years and ages are problem perhaps more than the ideas.

Also there are chronological problems. On his website http://masterkwon.com/kwon.html it states that he was 9 when he started Taekwondo and began to do hapkido 3 years later when he was 12. We know that Ji ran the An Moo Kwan in 1956 so either this info is incorrect or was born in 1944 rather than 1941. http://masterkwon.com/interview.html Which may be the case but is not supported by other bios on his own site. So it is going to require further checking. Cheers --Mateo2006 03:32, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Mateo,

I cetainlly understand your logic in your removal. It is really no issue to me, but, as Wikipedia is heading towards referencing as many facts as possible, from established, quotable sources, I quoted a segment that was published in Inside Taekwondo (an internationally distributed) magazine - that you, yourself have referenced in other articles. Though I am well aware of Tae Mon Kwon's website, I think it is better if this article references published work on the man as opposed to simply a statement on his personal website. So, I am going to replace what you removed with the exact quote from the interview article Shaw wrote on the man in 1995. Keep up the good work. (HKD 20:47, 9 October 2007 (UTC))[reply]

Hey HKD,

The quote is actually a better fit doesn't really pose the logistical problems with the ages and the years that the previous paragraph we were working with did.

I actually interviewed Master Kwon last Spring in connection with the article I wrote on Master Han for Black Belt. The info as now written here gels better with the info I got from him at that time also. He is actually quite animated and forthcoming in interview. It was a great pleasure to speak with him.--Mateo2006 22:11, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
