Kiyoshi was a frequent and outspoken contributor on an early online community, the Philadelphia Area Computer Society's IBM SIG BBS (PISB). Because of reading his writings as well as my chats with him there, and a few times in person, I can state that the article is factual. He was an amazing person. The world needs more people like him. Potential Edits

I plan on editing and expanding the article to include more of Kiyoshi Kuromiya’s contributions to the Civil Rights movement and his actions in the Vietnam antiwar movement as a Japanese American. Moreover, Kuromiya was very involved in the AIDS movement in multiple avenues and I’d like to make edits to reflect more of his advocacy in that sphere. Rationale for Revision:

-Lack of Information: Much of the vital information on Kiyoshi Kuromiya—his life and his contributions—are missing from the existing article, which is currently rated as a start class article. The article mentions some of Kuromiya’s involvement in different organizations and some of his achievements throughout his life, but fails to expand on the impact of much of his activism. The article fails to dive more into Kuromiya’s specific work during the different periods of his life; rather it mentions anecdotal evidence of his work that does not convey the breadth of his contributions. Moreover, the information presented has not been updated in years and ignores other literature that may provide more insight on Kuromiya’s life. Not to mention that the article is also not very well-cited, with many non-scholarly sources dominating the references section, and would benefit from in-depth research on facts about Kuromiya’s life.

-Notability: The lack of development of this article is especially concerning considering how relevant the intersectional work of Kuromiya is in today’s society. Kuromiya’s work with Black activists such as Martin Luther King Jr. and Philadelphia Black Panther Party members is very relevant in light of recent allyship between Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) and Black activists, such as collaboration and mutual endorsement between the Stop Asian Hate and Black Lives Matter Movement. Furthermore, Kuromiya was at the forefront of advocacy for people living with HIV/AIDS, a struggle that continues to exist today. For people with AIDS (PWA), the difficulties experienced are much harder for racial minorities, with activism often leaving out those who exist on the margins.

-Unclear/misleading Organizational Structure & Headings: The article currently has four main sections: “Family,” “Activist Career,” “Illness, death and interment,” and “Brief Timeline.” The section on Kuromiya’s activism is very broad, covering various experiences without a clear structure to the descriptions. The other sections are underdeveloped with only a few sentences comprising the entirety of the rest of the article. The lead section can also be revised to cut down on redundancy and expanded to encompass more information relevant to Kuromiya’s importance as an activist.Navenp (talk) 20:33, 30 September 2021 (UTC)

Peer Review

The breadth of content and consistent style of writing is impressive. I especially appreciated the details that personify Kuromiya, such as the quoted leaflets he distributed. However, some details could be clarified, such as whether or not he completed the degree in architecture. Readers will then have an even more comprehensive understanding of Kuromiya’s achievements as well as his personal characteristics. You did an incredible job in expanding the article and including more information regarding Kiyoshi Kuromiya’s life. I was very impressed with all of the information you found from the sources, and how you updated the lead accordingly to fit with the article. I would suggest expanding the sources used and trying to add a picture of Kiyoshi Kuromiya. By adding more sources you could further corroborate all of the statements in the article and could include different perspectives. Adding a picture of Kuromiya would help add a face to the article, and would interest readers more as it is more personal and relatable. Death from complications

AIDS shuts down immune system and welcomes cell mutation, this promotes cancer development. Thus "complications from AIDS" go in hand with "complications from cancer" and are not contradicting. 89.0.190.71 (talk) 09:57, 4 June 2022 (UTC)

Not sure if this is trolling or simple pedantry, but if you could read the cited article, you'll see that he was diagnosed with lung cancer in the 70s, over a decade before contracting HIV/AIDS, so yes, the phrase "complications from AIDS" is misleading. 67.183.216.4 (talk) 18:22, 4 June 2022 (UTC)

For this page and others involving the mass incarceration of Japanese Americans and persons of Japanese ancestry in WWII, please consider changing away from "internment" to a more accurate term. While concentration camp is controversial due to the its colloquial use to refer to Nazi death camps, it is the accurate term and is not a euphemism as internment camp and relocation center are. This is not new terminology and I am hopeful you will consider the change. I have included a couple of links that might be useful for you, including a discussion of the controversy that resulted from an NPR piece where the proper term was used, a Japanese American scholarly database where they offer definitions, and an NPS government publication about the terms that the US government uses and their shift away from past euphemisms.

'Anti-war demonstrations' opening line

The opening line to the section on his antiwar activism,

In addition to deceptively luring 2,000 people to the Penn library in his infamous antiwar demonstration,

seems potentially confusing as it appears to reference an event that isn't expounded upon, cited, or hyperlinks to another page. Should it go into more detail, or is there a particular wikipedia page of this incident that it should link to?
