P.210 of John Knight's Waiting for Wolves in Japan (2006, University of Hawaii Press: QL 85 .k65) contains a discussion of the Kishu concerning its origin and use in hunting. sorry to do a drive by.

Kishu Inu and Shiba Inu[edit]

I just reverted a change to the intro paragraph that stated that the Kishu was developed from the Shiba. There is a lack of english language information on this breed, and there may be wikipedia guidelines against citing sources in Japanese, but we should strive to cite references wherever possible. Seems wrong to replace one uncited assertion with another. Anyway, to the Wikipedian who posted that, I am hoping you can provide a reference for your assertion.

From reading http://www.shiba-dog.de/urtyp-en.htm, which is a pretty well-referenced article, there was no single japanese ur-dog, rather a couple of waves of dog importation and mixing. The modern Shiba is a very different dog than the original Jomon dogs and it wouldn't be correct to say that the Kishu, Shikoku, Kai, etc are descended from the Shiba.Transentient (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 18:51, 4 January 2010 (UTC).[reply]

Kishu Ken Health and Coat Color/Appearance revisions[edit]

I've done my best to add as much sources cited as possible to my additions in this revision. I have been responsible for a lot of health research and compilation of health data results and did my best to bring that to the Wikipedia page for ease of access without bias. I'm still pretty new to Wiki editing, so I hope everything was reported properly. Regarding coat color, I noticed that the page keeps being edited to claim that white coat color is the preferred color of the breed. This is factually untrue by all of the standards I could find published by the breed's major recognizing bodies (FCI, JKC, NIPPO), and so I did my best to cite the standards I could to show the absence of a preference. I also linked and cited the only standard written and published online that I could find in my research that does put a preference on the white coat color, for posterity. --Crispette (talk) 21:32, 9 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]
