Band members[edit]

Lately, many editors have been coming to this page and altering the band members section in one or all of the following ways:

  • People are claiming Dave Elitch is a former member.
  • People are claiming that Juan Montoya is a touring guitarist.
  • People are claiming that Ben Koller is a touring drummer.

I have been removing these claims on the basis that they're factually inaccurate or unsourced or not historically relevant. While it's possible to source and include Koller's contributions, Wikipedia articles are supposed to be written from a historical perspective and give proper weight where due. Koller has, as of yet, only performed at one live performance and I don't see any source claiming this will continue to be the case in the future. Tons of bands have tons of fill-ins for a single show all the time -- it only seems historically relevant when it's for a whole tour, not just a single festival performance. I can't find any published source claiming Elitch left the band, so I take it that people are assuming Koller filling in for one performance meant Elitch was out? We really shouldn't be publicly posting guesses. And the only thing I can find as of yet that claims Juan Montoya is a touring is a YouTube comment, which isn't even remotely close to a reliable source of information. But even if it was true and sourced, like Koller, it was only one single festival performance, which doesn't seem very historically important to Killer Be Killed's entire trajectory. I agree that these edits have been a bit quick off the mark, however:
1) Dave Elitch is no longer listed as a member of the band on their FB page. Usually that's a pretty good way to tell who is/isn't in the band in this day and age.
2) Juan Montoya is definitely a part of the Australian tour. Anyone who's seen the shows so far can agree with that, and the band have posted photos of him on their Facebook page. Whether he will continue to play in any future KBK shows is yet to be seen, but they haven't announced any shows beyond the Australian tour. So at this stage, with what we know, I think we can definitely call him a touring member. I'd say the same goes for Ben Koller. Bear in mind, we only have one small tour to go off at this point. Just my two cents. Either way, they were great live! Demonofthefall (talk) 14:18, 27 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Social media websites are never reliable sources of information. Also, the band has yet to actually tour, they've only played at a single festival. If anything, Koller and Montoya are festival members. As I said above, articles need to be written from a historical perspective. Let's say hypothetically speaking there was a guy named John Smith who played one performance with Metallica in 1982 -- does that bear any weight on Metallica's entire trajectory as a band? Is John Smith a touring member of Metallica? No, and I think as of right now, the same holds true for Koller and Montoya. Yes, right now it's very exciting and relevant that two big-name guys hopped on stage for a show, but is it yet historically relevant? Maybe they'll play more than just the one festival performance and actually tour with the band, maybe that's it. As of right now, I do not believe Koller and Montoya's single festival performance warrant inclusion in the members section, I do not believe we should be publicly announcing Dave Elitch to be a former member until the band confirms that this is true, and I especially don't believe Nate Newton deserves to be included in the band member section as the band has gone on record saying he never did anything. For a policy further explaining why Wikipedia is not an endless list of every single minor detail that can possibly be added to a page, please read WP:NOTEVERYTHING.
