Something not right here, me thinks[edit]

I cannot get either of the positions given (in coords) to match with the 1596 info (grid number 160/157)...the place on the West Bank is too far north, Huldra (talk) 23:49, 2 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Mandate material in Ottoman context[edit]

David, hi. I see you've contributed substantially to this article. I have a small issue: the sentence

"..., although the same village ceased to be inhabited in the late mandatory period."

is in a section about the 16th century, where it doesn't really belong, and the only ref is at the end of the paragraph: Hütteroth and Abdulfattah. I wanted to check if the source mentions the site being abandoned in the 20th c., but I don't have the book and there's no URL indicated. If you could please tell me if it is indeed from there, I would like to add a sub-section "British Mandate" and move the sentence over, with H&A as ref. You have added the whole paragraph here. Thank you as always! Arminden (talk) 12:04, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Arminden: Shalom. I may have checked this source at the time, when I was at the Hebrew University library in Jerusalem. I do not have access to Hütteroth and Abdulfattah's book, although I have perused through it at the library. Huldra extensively cites from this book, so there is a good possibility that she has access to the book and can check the source for you. I would do it for you, but I do not know when I'll be back in Jerusalem. I live about 45 minutes away (by bus) from Jerusalem. As for the citation in the article, it was perhaps already a ruin as early as the Ottoman period and continued in its ruinous state as late as the period of the British Mandate over Palestine. That is my guess. Again, Huldra can check this for you. Be well.Davidbena (talk) 12:40, 9 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Huldra, hi. I will go ahead and move it to a Mandate section. Can you please check if the source covers the information, or even gives more info about when the village was abandoned long-term? Thank you. Arminden (talk) 07:16, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi User:Arminden: the Hütteroth and Abdulfattah gives a "7-"; which means that it was not populated at the end of the mandatory period; it does not say when it was depopulated. I cannot see that it had any population in any of the censuses in the mandatory period, and it seems like ruin in the 19 century; it was probably depopulated some time before/during the 19th century; the SWP writes about "remains of an Arab village, quite modern"; Cheers, Huldra (talk) 20:50, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also; Finkelstein has info which should go into the article; shards have been found from EB all the way to the Mamluk era. Rohricht, 1887, p. 222 thought this could be the Crusader Tyberie, Huldra (talk) 21:03, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Huldra, thank you. Would you mind adding all that? I'm in a terrible time stress, even if it wouldn't seem so looking at the time I'm spending here. Thanks, Arminden (talk) 21:56, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Illegal Israeli excavations[edit]

And of course we should mention that the Israelis, contrary to international law, are conducting excavations on the site.[1], Huldra (talk) 22:44, 11 October 2022 (UTC) Another mention: Israeli University Holds Archaeological Dig in West Bank Area Claimed to Be Palestinian, it is apparently on land owned by Bassem Tamimi, no less.
