Name change suggestion[edit]

The result of the proposal was not moved per consensus. There is no tense to the disambiguator, and its purpose is simply to allow users looking for this bloke to distinguish him from others with confusingly similar or the same name, which it does. To follow such a precedent, we would have to recast and move thousands of articles, e.g., quite at random, George Clinton (vice president) to George Clinton (former vice president) or something similar and the same for George Clinton (Royal Navy officer).--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 04:55, 9 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Kevin Sheedy (Australian footballer)Kevin Sheedy (Australian football identity – The article heading, Kevin Sheedy (Australian footballer) is out of date as he is no longer a player. I suggest it be changed to Kevin Sheedy (Australian football identity). Melbourne3163 (talk) 19:02, 1 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose - I don't understand what "identity" means, but no we don't retire dabs when people retire. In ictu oculi (talk) 04:34, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose – per In. Dicklyon (talk) 06:07, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose also per In ictu oculi. Bidgee (talk) 06:39, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose the proposed term doesn't make sense. -- 76.65.128.222 (talk) 07:35, 2 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The word identity seems to 'offend' some; it is not critical to what I am trying to achieve. Really what I am trying to come up with is a phrase that accurately describes this person. He simply is not an Australian footballer - he played his last game of football in 1979, some 34 years ago. Why call him something that he hasn't been for over 3 decades? I don't understand. Melbourne3163 (talk) 03:19, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If it's going to be anything, it would be Kevin Sheedy (Australian footballer and coach) but just because he hasn't played for 34 years doesn't mean he isn't and wasn't a footballer. Bidgee (talk) 03:53, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
League uses (rugby league) as a catch-all, player, coach or both. So if deemed necessary, Kevin Sheedy (Australian football) or Kevin Sheedy (Australian rules football) might suffice.
Re "because he hasn't played for 34 years doesn't mean he isn't and wasn't a footballer" - surely it does at least rule out the possibility that he is a footballer if he hasn't played for 34 years. He was a footballer but clearly is not now. Melbourne3163 (talk) 05:07, 4 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Ian Blair giving Kevin Sheedy the key to the city[edit]

Ian Blair gave Kevin Sheedy the key to Essendon, but there's no articles about that 211.30.179.13 (talk) 08:42, 16 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
