Dab vs primary topic[edit]

Hey there. I notice this page was recently redirected to ketogenic diet. That page seems to exclusively deal with the special epilepsy diet. I do not believe this to be the primary topic. For example, searching google for ""ketogenic diet" epilepsy" gets 1 million results, and searching google for ""keto diet" -epilepsy" gets 26 million results. I think there is an argument to be made that the keto fad diet, covered in the article low-carbohydrate diet, is the primary topic, therefore I think we should avoid redirecting to ketogenic diet. Hope that makes sense. –Novem Linguae (talk) 12:35, 31 March 2022 (UTC)[reply]

No problem regarding the revert. You're essentially correct that, currently, the ketogenic diet article seems to be framed around the epilepsy treatment. However, that article actually deals with the low-carb diet as well, and I think in more detail than the subsection of low-carbohydrate diet. So, I'll leave the DAB as-is for now, and attempt to improve the other articles first, "ketogenic diet" being completely synonymous with "keto diet" in the 'fad'-diet world. Redirect discussion[edit]

The redirect discussion Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2020_October_4#Keto_diet result was keep. But later some editors changed it to a dab page. Disambiguation are not used when there are only 2 articles. I will have to list this on AFD in that case. Crashed greek (talk) 04:13, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Crashed greek, you are incorrect that such pages are not used when there are only 2 articles. This is a WP:NOPRIMARY situation. Per WP:PRIMARYTOPIC, the lifestyle diet for adults is most commonly searched for today, while the epilepsy diet for children is has enduring scientific and medical importance. The lifestyle diet suffers from being more of a label attached to a variety of diets (or phases within diets) than something that is easy for an editor to build an article around without failing WP:OR. Hence it has remained a section within Low-carbohydrate diet and despite many prompts, nobody has shown any interest in creating a full article on the topic, possibly because of the WP:OR difficulties.
Handling this problem has been discussed on Talk:Ketogenic diet many times. The redirect discussion you link to was created by an IP and engaged with by only two editors, neither of whom have edited the topic area. If you want wider discussion of this, I suggest a post to WP:MED rather than AFD is more likely to produce an informed response. -- Colin°Talk 07:16, 9 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
